Benny Kayser

Anyone who has just witnessed Bennys interview would never believe A he didnt go to Oxford University and B He isnt English !!

An incredibly fluid and intelligent linguist, his English was better than any English Footballer , using words they have never heard of..!!

If I was a SKY Executive, i would sign him up right now, thats his career after playing, for sure !!!

He is a player I miss.

Met him after the Clermont game and he still has a lot of love towards Tigers obviously made a lasting impression.

Yes! He was articulate, insightful and with not a sniff of hubris, having completely dismantled 'the enemy'.
Flawless English and effortless use of idiom: the most difficult part of learning and using a foreign language. Chapeau, Benjamin!

If I remember correctly, Benjamin lived in the USA for some time as a youngster. This could account for his command of English.

p.s. I believe his wife is English as well.

Re Footballers, actually, yes.!!

The majority of Foreign Footballers speak at least 2 languages, whilst a large percentage of our British players are unintelligible.

You would think that on 50K a week they would employ a Tutor to teach them the rudiments...

Did not see the interview but I do remember walking past Kayser when he first came to Tigers. To say he was big would be an understatement.

On the language thing and footballers it was a key rule for success as far as Gary Liniker was concerned. He went to Spain and learnt the language and even some Japanese I believe. I also believe the likes of John Toshack mastered Spanish - so lets not be too critical.

Isn't he half English? Or am I remembering wrongly?

Somehow I don't think it was a petty dig, regrettably I belive it to be true

It probably is but that why did the comparison need to be made in the first place? It stinks of an inferiority complex due to football being the vastly more popular sport

It's bound to be more popular because it's so simple and requires minimal thinking. All you need is a football, two players or more and jumpers for goalposts.
