Interesting is the apparent decision to only protect half of the pitch from frost. Perhaps part of a dastardly plan to fool the Italians when they first step out into a swamp and then unknowingly step onto an ice rink :smt017

The side of the pitch close to the dugouts and Crumbie does not get much sunlight and is the first area of the pitch to freeze, hence only half covered. Expect it to be fully covered if it gets colder for a long period of time
I suspect you're right but I much prefer my conspiracy theory :smt041

Curtains? Why can he not make do with venetian blinds like everyone else?

Rumour hath it that the club have "lost" half the pitch covers since the contractors used them as a dampcourse for the Clubhouse!

It is now snowing. That is the end of the development for a few weeks/months then?

Tried to check out the bar in the clubhouse stand - apparently we employ a steward to stop those without a ticket for the clubhouse stand going to the bar, or presumably the toilets. WHY??

According to the artist's impression, the new screen will be over the block of seats immediately to the south of the posts, and be the full width of that block.

The Artist's Impressions have been pretty accurate so far, except that the roadside facade is covered in more green cladding than planned(?).

It was said that the previous screen had been carefully put in wraps so presumably that is what will be installed on the back wall of the CAT stand with the new ground control room to the right and the balcony for the ClubHouse lounge to the left as viewed from the pitch.

I believe they also stated earlier that they were using the panel to reduce construction time following the delayed start.

Many questions answered.

The addition of the Caterpillar Stand has transformed the look of Welford Road stadium and we are delighted that so many supporters have already chosen experience matchday in the new facilities.
The Club appreciates that there has been considerable inconvenience caused during the construction and would like to thank all supporters for their commitment to the Tigers and also for your patience during the redevelopment work.

At a specially arranged Supporters Forum at Welford Road on January 14, Leicester Tigers chief executive Simon Cohen and the senior management team provided an update on the project and also revealed proposals to compensate supporters affected by the construction.

The main points from the meeting are reproduced below.

Background

A delayed start to the domestic season due to the Rugby World Cup provided a five-month 'window' to replace out-dated facilities at the Clubhouse End of Welford Road stadium. The investment made by major shareholder Tom Scott during 2015 resulted in a reduction in the club's interest payments and debt on the previous phase of redevelopment and allowed the Club to make plans for a new stand at a cost of £8million.

Where we are now?

The full seating deck of the new Caterpillar Stand was in operation for the first time for the match against Northampton Saints on January 9 when a record post-War capacity crowd of 25,849 shared in a Leicester Tigers victory.

All season ticket holders are now able to use the facilities and their allocated seats.

All seats have been fitted, turnstiles are in operation, concourse and kiosks are open and the roof covering is in place.

Feedback from supporters has been largely positive, though there is still work to do, including the completion of the roof, an extra toilet block, club shop and ticket office, more turnstiles and the big screen. Appropriate decoration will be added to the concourse in due course.

The Clubhouse Lounge is still under construction with a revised completion date of mid-March.
The office accommodation and full branding will be added later.

What is the club doing for supporters?

We recognise that supporters have shown their commitment by purchasing places in the new stand and that, in return, we have not been able to deliver exactly as we would have liked.

The club proposed to provide a compensation package for those affected.

It is difficult to provide precise details of compensation at this stage for a number of reasons, including the fact that we do not have a date for the full availability of The Clubhouse or know how many extra home games Welford Road will host this season.

The compensation package will include, but not be limited to, a free ticket to a European Champions Cup quarter-final for Clubhouse members and season ticket holders in the new Caterpillar Stand. We await confirmation of opposition and kick-off date and time for this fixture on the weekend of April 8/9/10.

The intention is to confirm a base offer and then take cases on an individual basis as some supporters have clearly been inconvenienced more than others. For example, season ticket holders now have their seats but Clubhouse members do not yet have their lounge.

The Club is extremely grateful that so many supporters have already bought into the new stand and hope everyone will agree that its redevelopment has transformed the appearance of the stadium as well as providing improved facilities.

Your questions answered

Will there be improvements in queuing times at kiosks?
We will monitor the operation of the new stand and try to identify issues such as queuing times. Familiarity with the stand will improve for supporters and staff over time and we will look at a queuing system for kiosks.

Will there be a big screen?
The original screen will return and be located within the new Caterpillar Stand. The glazing and cladding has to be completed before the structure to hold the screen is added.

Where is the Walk of Legends?
There is a wall between Reception and the Ticket Office of the new stand, facing Aylestone Road which we hope to use for the Walk of Legends. This will be visible from outside the stadium as well as from inside. This will be organised once the work on the stand is complete.

Is the Tigers Club Store staying in its current location?
The Club Store will remain in the corner of the MET-Rx Stand. An extra shop unit will be located in the new stand and there will also be a ticket office there too. Two matchday shops should hopefully ease the queuing time.

Will the public address system improve?
There is an emergency sound system in place to broadcast any emergency announcements. The full matchday system will be added when construction work on the stand is completed.

A good summary update. I suspect the unusually high winds have something to do with the additional delays of 6 weeks beyond the earlier stated '...end of January...' date.

Looks like the second floor windows on the road façade are now in place and there is good progress on completing the façade at the back of the seating area. It will be a good looking building when finished. :smt023

Thanks Wormus.

Panels to fit above the 'jutty out bit' and flashings still to fit but otherwise this façade is in the main complete. There was talk of the remodelling of the pavement in front of the stand (wider?) but I guess this is down to the city council and in the current climate may take years to get around to doing. :smt009

An acquaintance of mine has quoted for the supply of chairs in the corporate facility. He is likely to get the order (he supplied for the previous stand), however confirmation is not yet forthcoming.
In the meantime he has had Tigers calling him asking if he would like to buy a table for a match! He had to remind them that he wouldn't have anything to sit on :smt044 Furthermore the staff have by all accounts no idea if they are selling tables of 10 or 12 seats! You probably couldn't make it up :smt017
