Why do people leave the ground early?
Something that has intrigued me for a while and also to some degree annoyed me, is the people in who leave the game early. I sit in the CAT stand and it is really distracting when people start getting up and leaving their seats, going down the steps etc when the game is in full play. It is not a case of weak bladders as groups seem to move together. Large numbers on Saturday missed the last try through leaving early so they missed a key score. Yes, the win was in the bag at that point, but why leave before the final whistle? We've all got journeys home to make. It makes no difference what day or time of day the game is played, the same "fans" leave well before the end. If noise when kicks are taking place is distracting to players, surely fans moving around on mass to leave is equally distracting. Please don't do it.

As a terrace dweller it is both irritating and amusing to see the drift 5 mins before time. Mrs G gets quite upset ("they arrive late and leave early, why don't they save the money and miss the middle bit out?").WirralExile wrote:Something that has intrigued me for a while and also to some degree annoyed me, is the people in who leave the game early. I never understand this either. How much of a rush can you possibly be in on a Saturday afternoon that three minutes before the end of the game makes that much difference. I always refuse to let anyone past unless the ball is dead. Always have, always will.
If it is to beat the traffic, suck it up and accept you'll be home a little later. Or maybe even stay around a bit, enjoy the post match, chat to away fans and leave when there's less traffic.
If it's to get a train then just get the next one. Even if you're heading back to London and it's a 7.45 kick off, you have plenty of time to get the last 2158 train. Trust me, I get that train back to Harborough.
I just do not get what all these people are rushing for?

Re: Why do people leave the ground early?
You buy a ticket to support your team for 80 minutes, then why leave? No matter how dull the game is, it makes me laugh when people leave and then either a try is scored, or even better when a game is won in the last 5 minutes. I think it was Alex Tuilagi a fair few seasons ago who did exactly that. I also remember some Tigers fans leaving towards the end at the Twickenham final in the 2010 final, muppets!
Re: Why do people leave the ground early?
If like me you live in Northampton or further getting out 2 minutes early can knock between 20 and 30 minutes off your journey. The roads soon snarl up around the ground and up to 2 miles away. I only do this if we are winning by a lot.....
I can also understand it if you have small children. But I always try to see it out until the bitter end.

Smalldell - can't you just factor the extra 20-30 minutes into your day? Strictly Come Dancing/The X Factor haven't started yet.
I know we all have different priorities, but if you want to avoid the snarled up roads, as some have suggested, having a drink/coffee, sharing some banter with other fans or just listening to Rock Bottom in the Final Whistle for 30 mins or so will make the journey away from the ground much easier.

I hate it. I always ask people if there's a fire drill but never seem to get an answer. I also find it annoying how people keep getting up during the match to purchase food, drinks or go to the toilet. Get your food and drink and go to the toilet before the game starts and at half time! One thing we could learn from football actually is to close the bars when the match kicks off and open them again at half time

I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.

Phil B - have you tried Senokot? Always helps with blocked passages, apparently.

Re: Why do people leave the ground early?
Getting back to my original post. I find it odd that people want to leave before the end. If you are one of those that leaves early, is there anything else you don't hang around until the end for?
1) When you're at the cinema/theatre do you leave before the end?
2) When you're on holiday do you come home early, "because the traffic can be a nightmare"?
3) If you're in the dentist's chair, do you leave before they've finished the treatment?
I'm sure there are lots of other situations, but please for the sake of the rest of us, please stay until the Final Whistle has blown.

Re: Why do people leave the ground early?
Not meaning to be rude or anything but what on earth gives anyone the right to comment on how people want to live their lives. If someone wants to leave early then fine by me. It may be that they have another engagement that they have to get to, it may be that they are not enjoying the match, maybe they just like to get home before the traffic. So what. Does that make them any less of a supporter, not in my eyes. They have paid up for the ticket and taken the time to see the Tigers play live and if they want to go early then that is their prerogative.
Believe it or not, people have lives outside of watching rugby and it may be that whatever else they have going on in their lives is more important to them than the last few minutes of a rugby match. Whatever the reason, it does not make them disloyal or not fans of the club it just means that they have a different set of priorities to other people.
In fact, I must be the worst fan ever. Despite playing rugby for my whole life and being a life long Tigers fan, I must be the worst supporter ever and you know why, because I also like playing golf, can only play at certain times and this means that I cannot get to many matches. That must make me far worse than those that leave early in fact I should be embarrassed to even call myself a Tigers fan as I have other elements of my life that are more important than watching a game of rugby. Hell, I have even been known to turn down a trip to Welford Road to spend time with my wife. I really am a disgrace and the worst type of plastic fan.
Please, stop worrying about what others are doing, I am sure that they are not worried about you.

This annoys me far more, the constant up and down during the game.ellis9 wrote:I hate it. I always ask people if there's a fire drill but never seem to get an answer. My kids are only 4 and 6' so if the game is not in doubt (either way) we sometimes miss the last couple of mins so Ican get them down the stairs and out safely though.
