Bill McLaren turns in his grave
Two days of awful BBC commentary (OK I turned it off last night) but the Irish 'commentator' on the Italy cannot contain his partiality for one minute. It takes Keith Wood to introduce some impartial commentary - beggars description. Bill, I miss you.

We watched last night's match on S4C. Couldn't understand the commentary as it was in Welsh, but it made watching it so much more enjoyable.

It will be even worse when Eddie Butler gets to commentate on the French, he loves it, more spit than you can shake a stick at!

I'd pay quite a lot of money to watch a boxing match between Butler and the Pit Bull. It's win/win I really wouldn't mind who hit who as long as they both lose.........................

I still recall Eddie in a local pub. One wag grabbed the TV remote, pointed it at Eddie and furiously tapped the "mute" button. "Well.....It works at home!" He said.Hull Fan wrote:It will be even worse when Eddie Butler gets to commentate on the French, he loves it, more spit than you can shake a stick at!

Had to laugh today watching Nigels Owens lecturing the Scots and French front rows - given his acent when he gets excited I wondered just how much the lecturees understood?

Re: Bill McLaren turns in his grave
Thought Andrew Cotter on the French match - as usual - was the most measured of the BBC commentators, and even managed a few wry turns of humour, no pomposity; Townsend and Thomas C were good value too. Pity about the rest of the weekend.

Easy to mix up two players as they are both small compared to other players.wormus wrote:Well listening to Cardiff v Tigers today on DAB BBC Radio Leicester we had "Harry Roberts" in the centre making a break!

* Not sure what your on ? but Jack Roberts is our centre (the only Roberts in both teams) and Harry Roberts murders policemen - hence making a break!Doghashadhisday wrote:Easy to mix up two players as they are both small compared to other players.wormus wrote:Well listening to Cardiff v Tigers today on DAB BBC Radio Leicester we had "Harry Roberts" in the centre making a break!

Hence Harry Roberts.....maybe
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

Harry Roberts was a South African who played for Tigers in the eighties, at hooker. He retired after several unsuccessful ops on his shoulder.

Quite why Cotter isn't number one choice for the BBC is beyond me. Far superior to any of the other rugby commentators.jgriffin wrote:Thought Andrew Cotter on the French match - as usual - was the most measured of the BBC commentators, and even managed a few wry turns of humour, no pomposity; Townsend and Thomas C were good value too.
