Thacker has looked outstanding this season. When the six nations arrive, if he plays like he has been performing, he could nail a stating spot for the foreseeable future. Still don't know what position he suits more, hooker or open-side flanker. For his near future at Tigers, it may be better for him to go for the 7 shirt. Salvi could be off at the end of the season and he is virtually irreplaceable. Tom Youngs just signed a new contract and in his prime years.

I agree we really don't have a replacement 7 to Salvi. Thacker I think is a similar size to Backy, he just needs to get himself as fit and strong as Backy was, he has the skills...
