Castro interview

Post by murphy15 »

Don't read if easily offended. I appreciate it's not abnormal for an Italian to be emotional and passionate, but I do worry that there is some truth in his words. Something the last few seasons hasn't been very "Tigers-like".

Sad to see this sort of outburst. Clearly not a happy man. Hope he does have that pint with cockers someday soon.

Got smashed all match in the scrum and is a bad loser. Greenwood esq refused to fight for his place.
Old has been now.
Good Tigers business as usual.....get rid when passed it.

Poor Castro. Listen carfully. He was miffed that Cole was getting more game time. Tough. That's Tigers' way. Great player, made into a superb prop by us. Cockerill comes out of this with honour as his reply tells how it is and should be. Everyone knows Castro was under contract to Tigers and wanted out early. Toulon didn't want to pay compensation. Now you are not telling anyone, Mr. Castro, that you have not been well paid for leaving us!! Give those fans who admire you some respect. Still think you are a good player but not not very respectful about our great club, built by great blokes who are loyal, and like Cockerill, a true Tiger.
End of. Move on.
PS Please give us some more penalties in Toulon. Thanks.

Another bad loser is Steffon Armitage (built up all season by much of the press as a replacement for Robshaw). Moaning that Nigel Owens didn't give Toulon "any leeway". Why should he ?

Doubt there is much truth.

Otherwise why would Murphy want to be a coach under cockers.

or why has prob the best LH in rugby signed a 3 year deal. Etc, etc.

Look guys: we're not dealing with truth and lies, here. It's emotions and opinions. Give the bloke a break; he was epic for us and I, for one, forgive him.

Not really imo to storm a press conference and rant there and then is beyond belief.

I won't buy the whole I'm moving for game time thing either.

Forgive him for what?.....using foul and abusive language. Castro was held as an icon who kids looked up to. If this is how he behaves whether in front of the crowd or with the media then I am bitterly disappointed. He has let the spirit of rugby down, his team and himself.
If the interview is as quoted, I hope that they throw the book at him and make him realise that no-one is bigger than rugby and he needs to behave like a professional rugby player.

As for Delon Armitage, he has got history and should be taught respect for fans.

Rant over!!

Dan Cole tells a story about when he was trying to become the 1st choice TH.
Cockers told him that on his day, Castro was the best TH in the world -and that he wasn't.
Dan stayed and fought for his place, and became no.1.
Castro opted to move for more game time or money. Either is fine, but don't blame the club.

A former hero shows his feet of clay - but thanks for the great memories

I think you have to be a little careful comparing it to the situation with Dan. First of all he was much younger. Second Dan would only have had the option to move to another English club to protect his international career.

There will be time in the not to distant future (in the great scheme of things) where players like Dan, Crofty, Parling etc. will be at the back end of their career and their international place is challenged. They will face the same decisions as Castro, Floody, Moody and others before them.
