Silence during kicks
Is it me or was today particularly bad for silence during kicks? There seemed to be a lot of noise at the game today, but don't know if this was worse than previous games or I am just nostalgically remembering a time when there was complete silence. As a comparison I thought the respect for the kicker at the Saints vs. Glos. game last night was exceptional.
Re: Silence during kicks
I agree there was a lot of mumbling during the kicks. Announcer needs to remind the crowd of its obligations to observe silence for both kickers as it was excellent last season.

Re: Silence during kicks
It looked to us like the cheering was for the replay on the screen.
cheers

I'm afraid you're right, there was a lot of background chatter.

After 30 years of standing behind the home dugout on the terrace in silence during kicks, the GNC stand was very disappointing, lots of noise, mainly kids chatter, but no announcement to be quiet.

I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.

Re: Silence during kicks
Yes, it was bad....and sad that there was no announcement about it too.
The seats to my left are held by Caterpillar for their 'guests' and they were , er, talkative.
I could take it if they were visiting Americans but they weren't : all English!
Ssssshhhh!

Re: Silence during kicks
I noticed this but I hopefully put it down to one of two things:
1) The crowd was cheering the replay of the try shown again on the big screen
2) That Burns doesn't take as long to line up his kicks as any of our previous kickers, and by the time the crowd has quietened down he's already on his run up. The crowd then turns the volume up again to cheer the kick, or the players as they're trotting back.
Obviously this is only based on one game, it'll be interesting to see if it happens more as the season progresses.
I agree that if it continues Martin Ballard should just politely give the crowd a reminder that we respect the kickers of both teams. What i hope doesn't happen is the incessant "SSSSHHHHHHH"-ing that goes on, which is invariably as loud as the talking that they're trying to shush.

Blimey...
Re: Silence during kicks
Personally didn't really notice the alleged behaviour. Perhaps with the replays on two screens the silence took a little longer to happen, but the ground was silent when the kicks actually too place.

I didn't notice any difference tbh.....

+2 we were in the middle of the GNC and the distinct lack of silence was very clear.Jeremy Anderson wrote:Completely agreeTigers Tiger wrote:After 30 years of standing behind the home dugout on the terrace in silence during kicks, the GNC stand was very disappointing, lots of noise, mainly kids chatter, but no announcement to be quiet.
