During the World Cup

Post by Stu_F »

What actually is going to happen with club matches during World Cup? In 2007 in France they ran a "development sides" cup with a european place to the winner, I suspect that euro places aren't now as negotiable, but will there be any rugby at all? Will Nottingham be playing league matches (in the event they fail to get promotion next season)?

Anyone know?

That's a really good question, and I too would love to know the answer.

My two sons are telling me that the Premiership will be 'suspended' during the World Cup, but they can't remember where they heard it, and as teenage boys they are hardly reliable!

My guiess is that both the teams and the attendances are going to be hit hard, so some sort of compromise sounds like a good plan.

Anyone know?

With England kicking it off at 8 in the evening , that day could be a "normal league day I gues.

RWC ltd rules state that top level domestic Rugby can't be played in the host country at the same time as the competition. Therefore they wont be allowed to start the season until November.

Wonder if that will also apply to Wales, then?

I'm pretty sure that "top level" rugby continued in Wales in 2007 when World Cup matches were played in Wales despite France being official host country.

So the RFU could run the LV Cup during the World Cup period and as long it was clearly seen as a development tournament, which ought to be it's intention in any case.

And by that definition the PRO12 is a "development" league?

On the day that the world cup fixture is played in leicester at the King Power
Stadium. I vote that Tigers should play a home fixture at Welford Road, then let's see how many people attend both fixtures. I'm betting that there will be more at Welford road, what a good way to stick two fingers up at the Rugby Establishment for not using Tigers ground.

I doubt that the safety committee would allow both games on the same day even though they would both be rugby matches.
Tigers for the premiership and European Cup. Get behind the team and make some noise!!
