Pre Season Fixtures

Post by Bunchy »

are to be announced Monday I understand

If you read the Owen Williams RFU judgement on separate thread, you will notice at the bottom they are all Friday night matches.

I understand the home game may well have a "twist" away from the norm too!!!

Let's have a decent friendly fixture as a start to the season, the Ulster match last year in August was brilliant but the season before the match against Nottingham just portrayed the gulf of distance in terms of quality
between Premiership & Championship sides. Let's have a pro 12 team or a french team, but I know that getting a french side will be difficult as their season will have already started.

Tigers have a history that goes back decades of playing sides from lower down, both as a thankyou to the sides but also as a run out against opposition where they can try things in a "live" situation before the season begins. It's not meant as a full on match when playing the like of Championship sides Jersey or Nottingham or Doncaster. The away games in France are usually against first team opposition as they are a week or two earlier in their preparation than us.

And what is wrong with Saturday?

I'm sure the Club have their reasons but surely we would get a better crowd on a Saturday?

I for one will struggle to get to see the second game let along the first one due to work commitments; i always struggle with Friday night games as i have to travel up from deepest, darkest Northamptonshire.

Could be recovery time for players, or even getting more fixtures in a given time slot, just in case for example, someone was seeing out a match ban?

It's a pity that they're on Friday night, as that causes problems for quite a lot of fans, I'll be surprised if the attendence reaches 15,000. However the
Double Header is a good idea and if replacements are unrestricted, barring injured players most of the 1st team squad should get a run out.Cardiff Blues
although one of the weaker sides in the pro 12 should provide a good test.

Maybe the reason for it being Friday night is the concussion regulations, should a player be taken off,he would(hopefully) be available for the following Saturday? which would be the start of the season.

To be honest, I dont think it really matters what the attendance is for these games. It doesn't matter whether they are played in front of 24000 or 4000, Cockerill just wants his players to get a run out to try things out and get some match fitness.

A bit narked it's a Friday night - if it were a Saturday it would be a great day out and a definite train job (hic!). As it is, on last day of hols in Yorkshire Dales, so will only be at WR if the weather is foul.
