Heineken Cup semis

Post by tigerburnie »

Whilst not having any sort of alliegence to any of the teams, I sort of hope for Clermont and Munster to win. The other two just somehow seem to represent what is not right with the way the game is going.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.

I have to say that Clermont v Munster would make for a cracking final.

3 points of consideration,

1. It's always preferable to have been knocked out by the eventual winners,

2. Clermont v Munster would, indeed, be a cracking final,

3. A.B.S.
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

Clermont and Toulon for me. Clermont because they beat us and I can't stand Saracens. Toulon because Wilko deserves a fairy tale ending :smt023

Sarries struggling to sell even 25,000 tickets for their semifinal by all accounts.

Shocking that they can't get more than we can for half of our AP games. How many could Tigers sell for a semifinal? I know we could sell out the crisp dome, but how many more than that could we sell for a semifinal against say Toulon, in Leicester?

Edinburgh sold 37,000 for a quarter final, I think that shows how poor this is from Sarries. Mind you, I bet if they get to a semifinal next year, they'll be allowed to give away tickets for it like they do for their league games.

It's a tough one. I don't want Sarries to win, partly because I want the team who just beat us to embarrass everyone else and partly because I can't imagine what Sarries would do if they won. Wear a golden kit for the next 10 years? To be honest that wouldn't suprise me. St Jonny has won the HC now so I don't need to support Moneybags RFC. I'd hate for Munster to win it, imagine how much pleasure Sky would get from it! I would like Clermont to win actually. Players like Rougerie and Bonnaire deserve it although I hate to see Parra being successful. I still can't forget how he bit Chuter, fell over crying then got up and laughed at Chuter as he was sent off. Nasty player, especially bad from a Scrum half! :smt013

They are selling tickets on Groupon for the Twickenham semi final for £10......another marketing strategy!

Personally I'd be happy to see Saracens beat Clermont so they have a final to consider in addition to their playoff games. 2 extra HEC games will put their squad under a lot of pressure and they are always liable to pick up a key injury or two. Best for Tigers if they turn Clermont over IMHO but not necessarily best for rugby in general. Same for Saints in the Amlin at the weekend.

Would be nice to see a Clermont v Munster final as that would ensure Millennium sold out & probably a Clermont win so we can say we were beaten by the winners :smt003
Another plus would be that Rolland wouldn't be reffing the game!!!

It will be an all French final which Clermont will win.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

When I talk Rugby to French friends I am reminded that the Top 14 competition is considered the most important, not the HC. So maybe the real hunger rests with Sarries and Munster. That may drive them through. My predicted winner is Munster.
I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.

yep.

Fortunately (though you could say predictably), there are no welsh sides in the semi's or my ABW rule would clash and force a serious rethink. Probably resolved with some form of cognitive dissonance, and a serious grump.
