I may be pessimistic but .............

Post by APJones »

I may be pessimistic but I have looked at the next final three weeks matches concerning the teams that count and I have given the points that each team are, I think are likely to get. :smt017
(in my slightly pessimistic opinion - to be shot down as appropriate )

The fixtures are listed below with the likely points gained against each team. The final points tally is isted at the end. oh dear !

round 20.......
1 Quins v Tigers 4
5 Bath v Worc 0
5 Stains v Irish 1
0 Newc v Sarcs 5

round 21 ......
1 bath v Stains 4
5 Sarcs v Worc 0
1 Sale v Tigers 5
1 Cheifs v Quins 4

Final round .....
4 quins v Bath 1
4 Tigers v Sarcs 1
5 Stains v wasps 0

Tally from todays points
Sarcs 76 + 11 = 87
Stains 66 + 14 = 80
Tigers 63 + 13 = 76
Bath 59 + 7 = 66

:smt022 Comments ???

4 points for a win not 3.

Also reckon Saints could lose to Bath as it at the wrec.

I think you’ve been about as optimistic for Tigers as you can reasonably dare. The only real banana skin for Saints might be Bath and even if they come away with nothing, unless they drop a bonus point somewhere else Saints would be level with Tigers on 76 points and equal wins and I think the points difference is too much to make up. There’s hope but I wouldn’t put my shirt on a home semi.

Just to join in with the fun, here's my take on the run-in....

Current standings
Saracens 76
Saints 66
Tigers 63
Bath 59
Quins 54

round 20.......
1 Quins v Tigers 4
5 Bath v Worc 0
5 Saints v Irish 0
0 Newc v Saracens 5

Saracens 81 - safe for a home semi-final
Saints 71 - not quite safe for home semi
Tigers 67 - can't be overtaken by Quins now, only Bath
Bath 64 - still possible to be overtaken by Quins or go 3rd
Quins 55 - theoretically could overtake Bath

round 21 ......
4 Bath v Saints 1
5 Saracens v Worc 0
1 Sale v Tigers 5
4 Chiefs v Quins 1

Saracens 86 - well clear now
Saints 72 - in second on points difference
Tigers 72 - can't be overtaken by Quins now, only Bath
Bath 68 - could still go 3rd
Quins 56 - top four now decided

Final round .....
4 Quins v Bath 1
5 Tigers v Saracens 0
5 Saints v Wasps 0

Tally from todays points
Saracens 86 - but get docked 30 points for putting out a weakened team against the Tigers :smt038
Saints 77 - finish top for the first time ever 'cos of Saries points docking!
Tigers 77 - unless we average about 50 point wins the Satins will finish above us
Bath 69 - away to Tigers
Quins 60 - away to Saints

Saries get the hump and relocate to the Isle of White where they can guarantee season ticket sales of well over 40 thereby immediately doubling their average season ticket sales :smt040 :smt040

Ok so the last bit was a bit 'tongue-in-cheek' and wishful thinking but I still think it will be Saries, Saints, Tigers, Bath :smt002

I'll happily take an away semifinal at Northampton. We know we can win there and we will again.

I am confident we can get in the playoffs, but it is in others hands for us to come second, which is not good. However as has been said if we are away to the Sinners, that is almost as good as a home game these days, so no worries there................... :smt004

The only certainty is that Tigers will play Saints in the play-off semi. Sarries attitude to the final game in the regular season may determine whether Tigers play Saints at home or away. Tigers have nothing to fear if the semi is away.

There's still a possibility that Tigers could finish 5th! Friday is the crunch match in terms of who gets a play-off spot between Tigers & Quins.

Quite.
I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.

I may be pessimistic
Err. you have us winning all three games against 3 teams in the top 6. What are you like when your feeling optimistic?

Huge game v Quins. They've looked good in the last 2 weeks and have a good record against us so we'll need to be at our best tomorrow.

Who knows what will happen to others but it's all about pressure. Saints running out v Irish in 3rd place at the weekend will feel a whole lot different than if they are still second come KO.

Failure to get bonus points earlier in the season may result in not topping Saints by the end of the season but any win tomorrow will do for me.
