Manu's First Touch

Post by Jeremy Anderson »

So what will be Manu's first touch in the game - will it be a try, a penalty for blathering somebody, a wayward pass, a dropped ball or something else? I go for a big hit whether the person tackled still has the ball or just passed it.

Nah! He will take a deft short offload from Ant as he runs a line close to his shoulder. He will run though/over the first defender, sell an outrageous dummy to the full back and beat the incoming winger for pace to score uner the posts!

He will have a problem doing that with Ant not playing!!

Quick ball off the top of the lineout, YBY fizzes the ball straight to Manu who runs full pelt into the Newcastle 10, 12, 6, 8, 14 and 12 again and keeps going. Worked well against Newcastle at home so let's try it again. :smt023 In all seriousness though we shouldn't expect too much from Manu just yet. A solid game is the most important thing, he will be desperate to get that first big hit in but he shouldn't force it. Get the basics right and get over the gain line and I will be happy, anything else is a bonus.

For the 70 minutes he managed to stay on the field I thought that his contribution was immense. So ok there was a miscommunication surrounding Newcastle's first try, but his general play was excellent and 90% of the time he got over the gain line from first receipt of the ball, and to say he been out for 20 weeks, his stamina seemed to hold out.

A little too enthusiastic perhaps, but he grew into his task. 2nd half particularly was good. Encouraging he didn't appear to be blowing too much after 70 minutes.
