Castros' Replacement - Jerome Shuster - Where is he?

Post by MPG »

Last summer it was announced that Jerome Shuster was being signed to all intents and purposes as the replacement for Castro with his then upcoming move to Toulon.

http://www.leicestertigers.com/news/16565.php

Has he actually played for us?

If not - is he injured?

I had heard something to the effect that having arrived he wasn't considered that much cop - which surely beggars belief that someone who had played that many times for Perpignan and also had 2 caps for France wasn't up to the job!

Any news / thoughts please. Thanks.

Answer to one of your questions is yes he has played but in the A team.

Also played in the Sarries game!

If he is off, then with Boris also going, it suggests that Tigers will be seriously looking at the Prop options.

Arguably there are then only three well-established/ experienced props -Ayerza, Cole & Fluffy - with three or so promising/ up-and-coming props - Balmain, Bristow and the Italian lads. This is a bit light when there is always international call-ups and the risk of injury.

I guess that every effort will be put into signing Barcella, but then there might be more incoming. Any suggestions on likely or desirable candidates?

Blimey - I watched both of those games and his appearances passed me by completely - obviously made an impression!

Informal chat at the bar or a conversation as part of Cockers' consultatin with fans?

As for suggestions, well last season we were after one of Na'ama Leleimalefaga and Sébastien Taofifénua, but I believe both of those have been given fairly big money transfers since we were after them. There was also talks of Constatin Pristavita, but I think he went on a temporary contract to Wasps and they weren't overly impressed.

Although Lamb and Schuster have been disappointing.

Williams and Gibson have proved to very good buys esp with Mafi and Croft absent for so long. Add in De cheves and Scully who looks very promising.

And Heptema looked promising on Friday at his natural position of 12, and was put in a very tough spot making his debut at Ulster in the HC when he was brought in as a project player, him and pohe are handy young contrasting 12 to have in the U21 bracket.

Yes what's happened to Schuss, he was trumpeted as the ideal back up to Dan Cole, but has hardly played at all. Is he still injured. However we do have Logo who can play Tight or Loose head.

Don't think anyone trumpeted that he was an ideal back up, an he wasn't a direct replacement for castro as a direct replacement for castro would be another international TH prop. Schuster was more to be able to give Bamlain a chance to get less pressured game time in the championship on loan I believe.

Schuster was our 3rd choice I believe and the messed about situation with Castro meant we missed out on the first 2.

Worcester - that's where he is! After two substitute appearances and one of those in the LV!!

So two relatively high profile recruits (incl Lamb) from last summer haven't even lasted their first season at Tigers and both end up at Worcster - I think that must be some kind of first? Or does someone know any different - I'm sure you do.

If he has gone, we need to be in the market again this summer.
We lost Castro, Brookes and Harris and replaced them with Schuster and Bristow, plus Balmain being promoted from within.
Losing Boris and Schuster means we need two more in.
