Letting a lead slip at Welford Road

Post by L Smith »

Maybe some of the 'statos' out there could help me out...

Can anyone remember the last time we got into a 10+ point lead and then subsequently lost in a home game?

Many thanks,

seem to recall a game against London irish a few years ago where we were 17 (odd) points up and manage to scrape a draw 34- 34 (Ish)

Yes I think I remember that, we scored a cracking try from our own 22 I think early on in that game which ended in a chip over. But we dissolved completely in the second half.

I know I keep banging on about this ,but the main reason we let a 10 point lead slip last Saturday was our poor tackling. Someone on the coaching staff needs to
get a grip on this both from the standpoint of progressing further in the Heineken and making the top four in the Aviva premiership.

Don't agree that it was our tackling. They were throwing the kitchen sink at us and getting nowhere. They scored one try and it was us who were in possession at the time up, well, up until the ball was charged down. Fact is, 10 points was not a big enough lead in 2 teams so closely matched. As Cockers said we needed the next score after getting that 10 point lead.

Definitely not tackling in this game. Try was from a charge down, field position leading to pens was from good kicking and excellent kick chase. They didn't look like getting a try beyond that
