I think that's good news, he could do with a break. There's no point him playing internationals whilst he's not on great form at club level.sapajo wrote:Ben Youngs dropped by England tweeted by Alistair Eykyn

Agreed - he needs a rest. But also it does show how much his stock has dropped in 6 months from Lions starter to outside the England 23. I expect the rest will do him good - we need him back to his best from March onwards if we expect silverware this year.
Re: The Fall of Ben Youngs
I think we have been a bit harsh on YBY and so have England.
Without doubt he seems to be off form and looks tired, although I would say that he has looked much more threatening with the ball in hand over the past few matches. Earlier in the season he looked tired.
There are technical faults with him taking too long to get his passes away although this is perhaps not entirely his fault with the pack not delivering quick ball and a makeshift midfield not running onto the ball and giving him someone to pass to. There again it's hard to time a run if the scrum half dithers.
He's prone to spend too much time drawing the ref's attention to perceived wrongs by the opposition which really doesn't help his cause. Tigers coaches do need to drum it in to him to get the ball out quickly and run or pass.
I would have had him on the bench for England - using his pace in attack as the game breaks up rather than starting him.

So this is why he's faffing around like a girl!!
Not a bad finish from the Perps winger as well(look at the size of their 5 in build up!)

Agreed much more like it today

Looked like a man with the world lifted off his shoulder, no farting about, and some head-up rugby.

I don't know whether it was because Williams was next to him but he took more reasonability and care with the ball was great to see him play today.

i think he had one of his better games
Re: The Fall of Ben Youngs
There is a very frank interview with Ben Youngs in the Daily Telegraph following his British Lions tour and his performance.
see http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyu ... s/....html
This is quite positive as he feels the worst is now behind him.

Re: The Fall of Ben Youngs
Feel very sorry for Ben. Inexcusable, and a great shame really for an elite player like Ben to be put in this position. A pretty poor indictment of our professional game in England.
Re: The Fall of Ben Youngs
Good to read the honest assessment. I would agree that last week was a step in the right direction. If we can start seeing the zip for 80 mins he had for the last 20 mins of the Montpellier away game we will know he is back.

Fall of Ben Youngs? What fall? After today he seems back on track.
Hambo :- He was with England when he was injured, but he was a Tigers player, our player. He is still our player.”

Agreed, as Cockers said, on his day, Ben is World class and even when he is not at his best, he is a very good player.
