Goneva move to Castres

Post by St John Tiger »

Today I read that Vereniki Goneva is moving to Castres.
Has this been confirmed or is this just a horrible rumour?

Referred to several times on the transfer thread.

The last opinion I heard/read was that Castres had made Goneva an offer, with some sort of pre-contract agreement in place between them, but Goneva was waiting to see what Tigers would (could) offer.

Who knows.
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

In what publication did you read it?
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

ESPN Scrum re Top 14 transfers

Let us hope we can retain him, by far our most potent strike weapon this season.

He is still negotiating with Tigers, so no decision made - according to the Merc.

and if we cannot afford to keep him, we will no doubt go out and bring in another eqaully good player for relatively low money that few people had heard of prior to arriving at WR and train him in the Tigers way and make him into a better player who will then want more money in 2 years.
Meanwhile everyone will wornder how we have an amazing squad within the salary cap, without bothering to examine all the instances exactly like this that we face every year, including total honesty with long standing players and not being too involved in sentimentality when it comes to keeping players beyond their best on big money!

In last nights Mercury, the Tigers scout was featured. He is unknown to many clubs and just get in to the game and watch without there being any suspicion as to who he is watching.
Hope he can spot some real golden nuggets on his travels!!

To be honest I wouldn't blame Niki if he left. As he said himself if he could play till 40 he would stay because he lives the club, but he can't and so has to make the most money in such a short career. Let's not forget, he has only been on relatively big wages for 2 seasons now and before that he would have been on a much lower wage in the 2nd division of France. I wouldn't hold it against him if he wanted to make some quick money before retiring.

same as them all - they want big money - we can't afford it - let them go - move on - no hard feelings - the ones that bug me are the ones that then claim the club was in some way disloyal! No disloyalty either way - it is a matter of negotiation and supply and demand - asking for what you think you are worth and the club saying what you are worth to them - if there is no common ground then no agreement can reached.

Our club does what any good organisation does - it puts on offer things that money (wages) cannot buy - status , training, international reognition, trophies, rehab, long term job etc. these things are worth something to some players and not to others - often dependent at what point in their career they are.

All these decisions should not be emotional - they are just business

Agreed - as I have said before he is the man for the big occasion… broke Quins with try before HT in SF last year, scored in the final, home and away tries v Montpellier after a month out.

Ship some of TF's spare cash to keep him

A Plea to the Tigers management please sort out a good deal for Vereniki Goneva.
He is the type of player that this club needs to retain. If we are within shout of a victory in a match Niki can be relied on to provide that spark of genius.
