Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2013/2014 Season
My dad's just sent me email to say that Cockerill's just been on Radio Wales and confirmed that we've signed Priestland.

If that is true, I imagine that Toby has confirmed that he is leaving.Caerlyr Osprey wrote:My dad's just sent me email to say that Cockerill's just been on Radio Wales and confirmed that we've signed Priestland.
If so, I am very pleased with the replacement.

Damn you Osprey.

Tigers very rarely if ever confirm any signings first you normally know about it is when you see them in the off season.Caerlyr Osprey wrote:My dad's just sent me email to say that Cockerill's just been on Radio Wales and confirmed that we've signed Priestland.

We're not allowed to sign him yet anyway. I can imagine we were interested in Burns but given his abysmal form, Cockers has had second thoughts and would prefer a more rounded, solid player which Priestland is.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2013/2014 Season
The only issue with signing Priestland is that he is the reason Owen Williams left the Scarlets, i doubt Williams will stay on after his current contract if Priestland arrives on more than a 1 year contract

For Kornboy and others it looks as though London Irish's problems will be sorted out by the new take over by a group of Irish businessmen.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2013/2014 Season
Is Williams just a future player? I would argue he's good enough now but yet not good enough to oust Flood. We perhaps don't need another star fly half we may need one as back up to Williams.tigerburnie wrote:Re the 10 position, we already have invested in a "future" player in Owen, in the mean time we need a first team starter, which if Toby leaves, is not covered by Lamb just now.
He played a lot of last season for Ospreys as a starter.
Lamb probably got on the bench because he covers both fly half and centre in the last couple of matches rather than because he's the better fly half and I'm not sure Williams can cover centre.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2013/2014 Season
The latter comments about Williams come not before time. I fail to see why he won't be good enough when asked and given the nod.
A 'journeyman' in the mould of Jeremy Staunton would do us no harm if Floody goes. ISTR it was Stauntons kicking that won us several games a few seasons ago when we were injury ravaged and unable to string any good phases together.

From what I have seen of Williams so far, he will make a good kicking 10 but will not challenge the line the way that Toby does. Rhys Priestland however is in the same mould as Toby and can be exciting to watch.

That quote from the Welsh paper just states exactly what the Mercury said. Cockers has said we are looking at Burns as we'll as Priestland. We shall wait and see what we get..our transfer policy is like Xmas really, I am rarely disappointed as I am getting something new and I get the odd surprise in my stocking!!!.
There is never any points for 2nd place...

Toby Flood has signed for Toulouse. Done deal.
Goneva to Castres is also a done deal.
