Tigers merchandise sizing

Post by sapajo »

For some 4 seasons now I have bought shirts and jackets from the shop with no size issues. I am XXXL but all the clothes I have bought have been ample for my adonis physique. Shock horror I purchased a XXXL shirt yesterday but when I got home I was upset to discover that the shirt was so horrendously tight that I looked like a snake that had swallowed a whale.Something is seriously amiss with the shops garment sizing I suspect the company have literally cut back on the qty of material in their garments in an effort to make more profit. Proof is that the on line garment size guide states a XXXL equates to a chest size of 52 ins but when I measured the shirt across the front under the arms seem to seem it was 24 ins and by my maths that makes the size a 48inch chest not 52 !!!! Sadly this means that I can no longer buy any clothes that fit me and before you ask no its not a case of me putting on more muscle (fat). Needless to say I shall be taking the shirt back.

There is a difference in the sizing from Cotton Traders and Canterbury. Canterbury have always seemed to be smaller so I have had to go up a size to allow for the difference.

Thanks Tigerbeat, only one size left for me to go upto its 4XL and I could not find any garment in that size in the shop yesterday! Guess I will have to try and lose 4 inches off my chest size its crass commercialism but that is what you get when you outsource the supply and merchandising of Tigers official products :smt010

The Canterbury kits follow a more pro styled tight fit design so the kit is designed to stretch across to the size it mentions. That is because in a game the shirts are designed to be a second skin making players harder to tackle.

That is all well and good for the players but fans should be warned that replica playing shirts need to be bought at a size bigger than normal if they want a looser than player fit. There used to be a traditional cotton shirt line that was more fan friendly, not sure if Canterbury make those.

Fair point Sam regarding the replica shirts but the garment in question was in fact just a training grey cotton polo short sleeved shirt

I`ve had similar probs too - the women`s sizing is also poor. Also, there is not a big range in 100% cotton clothing either. I`ll just wear the old stuff - still looks good :smt002

I was lucky enough to have a polo shirt for my birthday from mrs TPT and also had a size problem.
When it was returned the lady in the shop said the same as others on this thread i.e. they are a tighter fit to act as a second skin - all this is no good for the fuller framed modern man.
I ended up buying a 2xl ! :smt003

The hoodie sizing is horrendous. Got one for my Mrs for Christmas and the sleeves come about 6" beyond her hands and it drops about 6-8" below her waist. Not everyone who needs a large width size is the height of a second row!

Each manufacturer has its own dimensional grid. And some models of clothes are initially undersized due to the peculiarities of the patterns used.

Agree. There does seem to be much variation ,manufacturer to manufacturer...
Current supplier however, has in my own experience brought an increase in quality.

I'll give you an example on shoes. My wife orders shoes from the same manufacturer. And even though one manufacturer should have the same dimensional grid, she received shoes that were larger than the size of her feet and, on the contrary, was too small. Although the outsole was the same size.

I feel really sorry for Sapajo and the un availability of the 4XL shirts, why should the supporters have to adjust their "paid for" figure to accommodate a Tigers shirt. Agreed the news kit is stylish and better quality, (Well it could not be worse in some respects)
I feel that if ever there was a case of "Re-shaping Leicester Tigers!" then this is a case for Bondi to interview on LTTV the dynamics of Chris Rose and Sarah in the series and questions from the supporters in advance.
Resist a 4" slim Sapajo there must be a shirt that fits you but might have a 1 or 3 on the back already. :smt002

It's worth noting the original posts in this thread are from 2013, I'm hoping that somewhere in the last 8 years he either slimmed down the 4" or found a shirt to fit?
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.
