Another prop legend in the making?

Post by parkerd68 »

Balmain has, in the handful of times I've seen him, already become a destructive ball carrier, epitomised by his rampaging run today. Seems tidy at scrum time too. I hope we can hang on to him.

He was highly rated when we brought him in a couple of years ago. Glad he is getting game time now. Looks like a real beast. I have no fears of Castro leaving now with Fraser ready to step up.

Who did we buy him off? I thought he was a academy player? Must be Newcastle... :smt002

Good job he looked good in the scrum at TH as Logo struggled after good start: not patch on his scrum work at LH

Guess Fluffy is having to re-adjust to tighthead, as he started there for us when he joined and scrummaged very well.

No one - he'd left Newcastle after they didn't offer him terms.
I think we beat Saints to him - they offered him a trial and Tigers offered him a contract, he preferred the latter.

IMO Balmain has the potential to be an international, I am certain part of the Castro decision is related to Balmain's impressive performances. I too thought Newcastle released him and Tigers did very well to sign him!!

As for Logo I think he is just re-adjusting, it's not that easy, he was excellent at TH during last years 6ns, I will never forget him coming out of nowhere and then beasting Smit and then Gill during the win vs. Sarries.

Don't forget we also have Kieren Brookes who came on for the Saxons last night and acquitted himeself well be all accounts. We are blessed with young props, we just need to keep them.

To early to judge in my opinion, that said he is showing massive potential. But only more game time and experience against top opposition will determine. Fingers crossed :smt023

Still remember his 50m charge through half the Notts team in preseason.

Saw 'Balmain Train' coined on the Unoffy.

It's interesting to look at Balmain and Brookes and see where they lie in the pecking order. Brookes was with the Saxons, but is Balmain above him in the Tigers? IIRC Brookes has been on loan, but when we were down on props in November, it was Balmain who started against Wasps.

Certainly 2 good reasons not to panic about Castro's departure. :smt001

After only a handful of appearances he's already reaching cult statuses the terrace. Really wanted to see more of him in this game.

for what it's worth, I thought he was superb today. OK, limited time on the field but really made a difference.
