Re: Teams up for Maori game
As I wrote previously, I cannot understand the reasoning behind selecting Salvi for this one. The first choice team is unbalenced without him and our ability at the breakdown is seriously diminished as he is really the only 7 we have in the squad so risking him in a friendly is, for me anyway, reckless.
We have 2 AP games (Wasps and Bath) and 2 HC games in the next 5 weeks and 4 wins (with two HC bonus points also a must) will be critical to how our season pans out.
I really hope that it doesn't backfire on us.

strong side.
As someone said if we put out a weak side, the touring teams won't want to play us....

He also needs to regain match fitness which he wont get from pulling splinters out. The Maori game will be a good test and then rest them during the LV cup games as we always do. Thats 11 days to recover. Shame Bowden is not starting in this one and giving Allen a rest but it may mean he is starting in the LV cupbluntiger wrote:As I wrote previously, I cannot understand the reasoning behind selecting Salvi for this one. Re: Teams up for Maori game
Like I said, I really hope that it doesn't backfire on us because we need Salvi more than anyone else at the moment IMO. If other players get injured, we have cover but Noone and Thorpe are not up to speed and are not adequate cover for Salvi. Big risk.physiodan wrote:He also needs to regain match fitness which he wont get from pulling splinters out. Re: Teams up for Maori game
If I were a first team player I wouldn't want to be left out of occasions like this. It is the sort of match you play the game for and someone like Salvi, who is not going to see much international game time, I would imagine would be very upset not to get the chance here.
Keep the players happy and grateful to the club for giving them these great opportunities.

Shame that SKY aren't covering the game as they did with SA & Australia.
Never mind.

Re: Teams up for Maori game
Great to see Tait back, but suprised to see GM on the bench, especially when other "key players" such as Salvi and Deacon are staring. Happy for Deacs that he has not picked up another injury. Presumably Phibbs ahead of Harrison is due to GF at 10, this is a bit negative IMO. Hopefully the side will push them close, another win vs. a national/ second side would be superb.

That's assuming you're watching Sky NZ of course.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

Re: Teams up for Maori game
The Maori team has some real quality players, Taylor is pushing Dagg for the AB's & Eaton was arguebly the best NZ 2nd row in Super Rugby last season.
I would suggest we might struggle up front as the Maori front 5 is big strong & very very mobile.

To win is not as important as playing with style!

Re: Teams up for Maori game
It's a good side and I'm looking forward to a great occasion. I didn't go to the SA game a couple of seasons ago (big mistake), so here's hoping for a similarly rousing match!!

I can't tell you how excited I am for this. It's a shame the Autumn Internationals have got in the way but the side we're putting out is excellent.
If it's not televised then there sould be a DVD.
I'm so excited, but I haven't told my kids that I'm going because I can't bare to tell them that I'm going without them!
