Manu's forehead celebration
http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Manu ... wM3i9l.jpg
The 'L' sign on his forehead caused some discussion/horror. Was it thanks pointing heavenwards, is it a long standing 'Loser' joke within the teams or is a rude gesture to the opponent (when I've spoken to him deffo not this one...but some friends certainly saw it that way!).
Anyone know the definitive?

Maybe something to do with Land Rover? He's just passed his driving test and there was some banter on Twitter among players regarding Land Rovers!
Re: Manu's forehead celebration
He's being doing it for a while. Not sure of the significance but I doubt it is anything disrespectful.

I agree, but some wendyball types have already said that if that had been Wayne or [insert foreign footy name here] then there would have been an outcry on the back pages!!Will S wrote:He's being doing it for a while. Not sure of the significance but I doubt it is anything disrespectful.
Re: Manu's forehead celebration
Doesnt he do it with his right hand? Therefore not an 'L'...

If you use your right hand, it appears as an 'L' to anyone looking at you. Try it or have a look at the picture in the opening post.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

Probably a pre-arranged signal to someone he knows. Maybe his nieces?

'Love' maybe? He's got a heart drawn on the wrist strapping of the same hand. I'd like to know, not because for a second do I believe he'd mock the opposition but it does seem a bit of an odd gesture on such a grand stage.

It does seem the sort of thing a young man might signal to a young woman
Omnia dicta fortiora si dicta Latina

Jazus, you should take a look at the Shedweb forum. There are 5 pages of discussion on Manu's "Celebration" with the sensible vote just about holding sway

Their thread is hilarious, people within one line going from "I'm not sure what it is..." to "but it might be THIS, and if it is then he should be banned FOREVER!"
His previous little celebration used to be to tap his out-pointed elbow, not sure anyone said "why is he gesturing that he wants to elbow the opposition?!?!"..

Saw the end of a 2010 edition of Top Gear last night and James May did the same celebration. still none the wiser as to what it means but it's not new
