A quick question on rugby!!

Post by brooksey101 »

Hi dont know if this is in the right area of the forum. Got some university work and doing a dissertation on lineouts and their effects of a game. And just wondered if anyone could think of a game where a try was immediatly scored from a line out? Already thought of ben youngs v aus and ibanez (2) against us!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Before the days when lineouts had to move back from the tryline to the 5m line, I scored from the back of the lineout - caught the ball and fell over the line.

St. Hugh's School Colts, Woodhall Spa, Probables v Possibles, c 1961?

Not much help, apart from that! :smt002

Keith Woods for Ireland vs England a few years back - although he took a pass from the catcher so maybe that doesn't count.

Mafi vs Gloucester is the one that springs to mind, taking advantage of a poorly defended lineout to charge for the line. It's at 0.44 on this highlights video. Good luck with the dissertation and remember, there's no shame in still being in the library at 3am the day before deadline!

You have an excellent example in the latest World Cup final where the All Blacks very aptly created two "blocks" at the lineout and sent their hooker between the said blocks to score against the French. If my English is clear enough.

Ibanez scored for the Wasps (booooh!) against the Tigers (Booooh) in the final of the Heineken Cup (2007 ? 2008 ?)He threw th eball and was fed back imeediatly and ran along the line to the tryline. Well played. (Boooooh the Wasps.) :smt019

There was one back at the start of the Deano success era in abut 99 when Corry scored a match winner from a short lineout against Northampton at Franklins Gardens. Got it on an old video.

I recall Matt Poole scoring a try at Twickenham in a cup final against Bath where he caught a Bath throw in on their 5 metre line and dived over. It was the final at which Neil Back pushed the ref (Steve Lander)1994/95?

Justin Marshal for the Ospreys against Ulster a fews years back in the H-Cup, and Budge Pountney for Northampton against us in 2002. Also a try from a line out for Samoa against Wales in the 1999 World Cup, although that was a Welsh throw in.

A horrid game at our place against Northampton, fifteen (ish) years ago, evening kick off.

They made a very short throw to the front of the lineout, flicked it down to Dawson(?) who skipped down the line and scored.

Then we let them do the same thing again ten minutes later.

Apologies for the imprecision, all my old progs are in the attic. The horror lingers in the imagination.
