You're quite right Sam in what you say, but do we put in youngsters in the Aviva or the Heineken and risk the consequences, or do we put them in the "A" league and the LV first? I'm guessing that the latter is the clubs view so get some one with experience at this level on standby, just in case. It seems that given how close we must be to the salary cap with all our internationals, our options are somewhat limited and also it is obvious that there's not a lot of "stars" who could have come in instead.
We had Skivington in place and the club probably thought we would be ok now for a season or two, then a sudden request to return to London put us in a bit of a spot, no-ones fault we just have to make the best of it.
It seems that some are not giving a new player to the club a chance that is what I am dissapointed about.

Disappointed by the decision not to use our all new Academy players more. :smt010

I suspect that there are genuine gaps in the squad which Richard Cockerill is trying to plug.

Well. :smt011 We have now lost two top class back row players in Woods and Newby to retirement.

It will have been known by the management for some time that they were not realistically going to make it back. We are looking very light, especially at openside. Cockers was obviously right to look for new signings.
Today is yesterday's tomorrow.

I know it's easy being clever with hindsight, but maybe, just maybe our coaches and backroom staff know more than we mere supporters do. They have a great back up staff and the two Peters are showing to be good business heads.
Perhaps we should show the proffesionals a bit of patience to do the best for the club and not leap to half baked conclusions with no stats to back the hunches.Young players of accademy standard, don't always transfer that potential to the first XV, they need to be eased into the game, like maybe last nights "A" league game before Saracens away or Quinns at home.

Who is available out there in the back row, particularly someone who plays 7?

We are chronically short in that dept now, Brett Deacon is a great club player but not a quality 7 like Salvi, Woods or Newby.

If Salvi gets injured we really will be in the s**t!!

Now that the news is out that Woods and Newby have had to retire we should recognise that Cockers has every reason to try to sign another 7. If Salvi is injured does anyone think that an academy player should be thrown in. Keep trying Cockers!

stop spamming your blog all over the place.

Noone, according to those reports, is a number 8/flanker which usually means blindside not openside.

Number 8 is a position we seem fairly strong in.

What we need now is Tom Croft to recover well and not have any lasting problems

Croft being fit will not help with the shortage of open sides. He is an out and out 6, and we have a few of those Mafi, B Deacon and both Waldom and Crane can play there.
Maybe this piece of news makes more sense of the Richard Thorpe signing who has played 7 for the not nots.

Croft is better cover at 7 than any of the 4 you mentioned - he also also gives more pace than any of those

[quote="TomR96"]Properly another new signing for Tigers with another back-rower, Wessel Jooste who Richard Cockerill has took on trial and is loooking for cover for Craig Newby and Tom Croft. Why? This is when the coaching need to trust players from the academy to step up for a few games and give them a load of confidence. Tigers have a great academy set up and have brought in the likes of Tom Croft, Ben Youngs and Dan Cole, and by using the academy at a young age they can gain valuable experience.

Don't forget a certain Mr S Mafi came in as injury cover and look how that turned out.

I cannot believe that you lot question the youth policy at our great club. Tigers have nurtured some of the best players in the world, consistently for decades. If the management team think that arnems or everard or any one else do not cut the mustard then they must go. If they think that we need experience in a particular position so be it. Cockers could sign Richie mcaw and u lot would moan about giving A. Youth a run out!
Keep the faith we are the best club in the world

At least then the chant "Leicester Tigers, always cheating" would start to have a ring of truth about it :smt003
