Jeremy Staunton is retiring

Post by BJ. »

According to The Rugby Paper, he's hanging up his boots and looking to become a teacher.

Best of luck, mate. :smt023

Best of luck to him in the future, he may not have been glamorous but he was certainly effective and without his input from 10 the side would not have fared so well in international windows IMO. I'm quite suprised he couldn't find a club really but perhaps this is what he wants to do.

Best of luck in the future :smt023 :smt023

Would have thought he'd be a great understudy to Henson at London Welsh. Good luck to him, never let us down in a Tigers shirt. Not great, but not terrible either! Good luck Jezza!

I'm surprised he hasn't found a slot elsewhere. Sure, he won't set the world on fire but he has been Mr Dependable for us, happy to train and wait for his chance and do his job. The perfect back-up player. How long can we afford the luxury of, and maintain, 2 top rate 10's when there is a shortage of top rate 10's? I think Jeremy's value has been underestimated by many on here.

Good luck to him in his new career. I'm sure he'll tackle it in the professional way he has served Tigers.

I have nothing but praise for his contribution to Tigers - he came knowing what his place would be in the hierarchy and nevertheless gave everything. Along the way he seldom had indifferent games and delivered a couple of crackers. He got lots of stick on this forum and seldom much praise - certainly not as much as he deserved.

Like others, I'm hugely surprised he's not found another club. Or maybe he had, but just didn't fancy it.

Either way, good luck to him. He was a true professional, and a proper Tiger.

Whilst refusing to wear the rose tinted spectacles of some of my fellow posters (and being mindful of some of the critical posts I have put on this forum in his regard previously), I too am surprised that Jezza has not found another gig somewhere.

He is your typical "ronseal" player and always gives 100% - and in his last few starts for Tigers had actually decided to play with a little attacking verve, which was good to see...

At his age, another couple of years as a backup to a smaller Prem team, or as the main 10 to a championship club, were still within his capabilities I thought.

I think its maybe a case of wanting to play at the top - or not at all ?

Good Luck to you Mr Staunton in whatever you choose to do next :smt038

Good luck in teaching, wonder what age group and which subjects he will offer?

Good luck to him, I'd have thought Ulster would have benefitted from him as backup to young Jackson but hey ho.

Let's hope he works in a Leicestershire school and encourages more young guys and girls to take up rugby!
