Re: Crouch, touch...no pause?
Should help as it means the front row are not having to hold the pressure for as long so hopefully less collapses. Implementation of current laws would go a long way to solving the current issues, make sure the scrum is steady before the ball goes in and make sure it goes in straight so that hookers are competing for the ball.

Re: Crouch, touch...no pause?
Taking the pause out is good if that is what it does - if it is touch and then take the hand away which it seems to suggest them we are still at the whim of the referee as to when he says set which sounds just another word for engage.
The key is to take the charge out - I would have them touch and keep holding and set - this would automatically stop the charge - I will remain to be convinced and would need to see it in action.
What really puzzles me is the make up of of this commitee - It is full of back row men and a few centres - who all know a fat lot about scrummaging other than poncing about at the back of it (Dixon, Jeffrey, Mourie etc ) only the Frenchman seems to be a prop from what Can see. Where is Milne,Price, Cotton, Paperambord et al. No wonder it still looks a bit dodgy!

If the 'set' is a genuine one then all we have to worry about is the put in. However for the life of me I can't see what was wrong with the fold-in method of old.
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

Because that was far too simple:jgriffin wrote:If the 'set' is a genuine one then all we have to worry about is the put in. However for the life of me I can't see what was wrong with the fold-in method of old.
1) The current rules are designed to allow underpowered Aussie scrums to collapse with a 50:50 chance of not being penalised.
2) Waste so much time at the scrum that people get so fed up that they turn the scrum into a rugby league restart to allow underpowered Aussie scrums parity.

It's because forwards go and get real jobs after they retire, not hang around the corridors of power in shiny suits.Where is Milne,Price, Cotton, Paperambord et al.

Well Cotton had plenty to do with the RFU when he finished and Maclauchlan is now the SRFU president and they are 2 blokes whose two pennyworth I would certainly respect in this regard

Will the refs understand or carry on as at present in a state of ignorance.

Re: Crouch, touch...no pause?
'Set' definitely works for speeding up the game, but as for being safer that's yet to be proved. Also makes the faffing refs be more focussed and decisive.
The 5 second ruck amendment is brilliant, great to see the team on the video example of 'how it used to be' are the boring Sarries - 15 seconds to get the ball out - hah!

Re: Crouch, touch...no pause?
Looks to be a definite improvement in both cases - however it may handicap the front row a bit ...one...er...two...er...

Re: Crouch, touch...no pause?
I rather thought that Mr Rolland was playing the new scrum laws last Saturday.

That one confuses me too. Why is it a problem for men to wear tights but not for women? And why not leggings?mightymouse wrote: and ... is the one about women wearing tights a joke!!
