Sarries fielded more English internationals than Tigers last week (look at the match programme). Why do people keep having a go (with negative connotations) at Sarries for having a South African connection? It's childish and is another sign of mindless football (soccer) fan attitudes creeping into rugby. Tigers have relied on talent from all over the world, including South Africa but I don't recall fans of other clubs using that as a point of criticism. It's disrespectful to refer to `Saffas' or `Stains' because it makes fun of what others respect. Maybe this is yet another sign of how dumbed-down this country has become.

It'd be dumbed down if we didn't know that Afrikaans is spoken in Suid-Afrika! The rest is a bit of fun and of course it it's hypocritical (and tongue in cheek).

These remarks only become 'wrong' when there is deliberate malice - here there quite clearly isn't. There's been far worse internally with attacks on individuals - players, coaches, hierarchy. Indeed there has been far, far worse invective against posters who've merely identified spelling/grammar errors etc. This latter does worry me.

This level of sniping rudeness has been common in rugby for the many decades I've been watching and pre-dates professional club rugby by years.

Let's face when I made the quip I've no idea how many of the South Africans at Sarries are Afrikaans speakers anyway.

Sarries DO have a strong SA connection throughout their model. Not just in playing staff.

And other clubs regularly refer to us as Tiggers, Cheetahs, etc.

Relax sport, they are rightly nicknamed "Saffas" because there is a huge amount
of SA money going into the club which has had little support and is loosing money hand over fist.
Andrea Venter is a Jarpie as are half the playing staff.
Add the immediate past SA captain and you may see where we are coming from.
You may also have read that substantial interests in SA have wanted for some
time, to set up a "London South African" club. No one doubts that this has been
happening at Sarries.
I see nothing wrong with this as long as they bring on some English qualified
players.
