Garvey announces Worcester departure...
Its official, Michael Garvey has announced he will be leaving Worcester at the end of the season. No news on where he will be heading though...
Hopefully to Welford Road..
Have a read: They have brought in David Lemi as his replacement...

Re: Garvey announces Worcester departure...
If we're signing another winger he wouldn't be a bad shout. Very under-rated but then also never fulfilled his top potential.

Thought he was off to France?
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95

28 years old I think which I know is not old but for a winger, whose main attribute is his pace, I would prefer to go for a younger player. Just my personal preference.
Lots of young wingers floating around at the moment and would be interesting if we could poach one of the real young guns like Wade or Yarde.

I thought we had signed Benjamin? Is this in addition to him? We know Tuilagi, Agulla and Robinson are all on their way oout so we will need one or two replacements.
Always a Tiger
Re: Garvey announces Worcester departure...
We have signed Benjamin. Rumour is that we are after another winger which sounds about right with all the wingers leaving.

According to "This is ... Leicestershire" we have also signed Adam Thompstone as well as Bowden from London Irish. With Benjamin, that's two new wingers for next season. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/L ... story.html
On the departing list, there was talk that Hamilton was on the move (contract at an end). Not heard anything recently though but could be four of our back three (???) going at the end of the season.

Seems we are signing mediocre/potential wingers if this one is true. I would prefer we put our money where our mouths are and get somebody who will make a difference in the Heineken Cup. Sad to say I cannot see our signings so far, apart from Bowden, being difference makers.

Exactly--all journeymen.
If Bowden is that highly rated WHY are Irish letting him go ?

Re: Garvey announces Worcester departure...
I think Benjamin and Thompstone could become very good players at Welford Road, not so sure about Garvey though.
It is disappointing not to hear of any bigger names being looked at. Tigers' recruitment doesn't seem very ambitious at the moment... hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

Same could be said of Vesty. Hipkis and 12T's - all journeymen and if they were so highly rated why have Tigers let them go!norfolkexpat wrote:Exactly--all journeymen.

Of course this is my own opinion and other posters may have a different perceived factual viewpoint.

Why indeed, if they are replaced with equally inneffective journeymen??Smurphswillgetya wrote:Same could be said of Vesty. Hipkis and 12T's - all journeymen and if they were so highly rated why have Tigers let them go!norfolkexpat wrote:Exactly--all journeymen.

Still keeping the faith!

Most supporters will always naively think that incoming players will magically turn out to be wonderful after donning Tigers' kit.
Many months later when the sad realisation sinks in that they are mere journeymen, there will be a new set of incomers.
And the cycle will begin all over again.
ps no way are Vesty, Hipkiss and 12Trees journeymen, but several players who were brought in within the last two years certainly are.

To post that about Sam, Hippo and 12T suggests either mischief or a very skewed idea of effectiveness and talent in rugby terms.Pete wrote:Most supporters will always naively think that incoming players will magically turn out to be wonderful after donning Tigers' kit.

Speaking to my mates who follow LI they are gutted that Bowden is leaving. Less the case that Irish are letting him go but that Tigers have tempted him across.norfolkexpat wrote:Exactly--all journeymen.

You will always pick up a few "journeymen" around the WC year as what is the point of bringing in a few internationals when they are going to :censored: off to the WC with all our other stars. Makes sense to pad the squad for 12 months then trim again at the end of the season which is exactly what we are doing.
