Headhunters to help RFU choose next England coach

Post by sapajo »

Just up on the BBC Rugby web site! What do you reckon seems Nick Mallet is not nailed or is he?

Well the RFU have money to waste, then? So after £m spent they come up with Mallett, Cotter and Kirwan?

Reliably informed Mallett would jump at it but as of a week or so ago had not yet be asked. I think he is the man for the job but would put many noses out of joint.

There are many reasons why headhunters would be used. One of them is that there is no-one capable in-house of doing the job. Anyway much better to get someone else to come up with the short short list if you can; No point in wasting time interviewing the dross. It also helps the "sounding out" process, as a direct approach from someone in the :smt046 might look like something it is not. As for advertising, :smt043 well in a recession, they might have thousands to work through. Cost is usually not an issue, but I would expect the :smt046 to pay around £100,000 for the privilige of sifting through a few well-known CV's etc.

Reading the posts on the Ulster debacle, there are many on here who might feel they are qualified!!! :smt003
I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.

Alas I suspect we may not get the best people, especially if it takes a long while (to earn those big fees).

Has anyone noticed the Headhunters will report to a comittee, who will select the new coach/manager.The most significant fact is that despite the statement that he would have no more involvement with the senior national side R Andrew is on the selection comittee.
