Rugby League
In the Tigers squad, I would love to see either a rugby league coaching setup or some rugby league players. Rugby league players play really attacking rugby and their defence is fantastic. Any Thoughts?

Re: Rugby League
They are completely different games requiring very different disciplines.
There are very few RL players that have made it in union and they have all been backs.

Re: Rugby League
Not sure I would call Myler and Hape great.
Re: Rugby League
It will be interesting to see how Eastmond goes at Bath this season now he is back from injury. He is the type of player who could well make the transition.
Only league player I would love to tempt across at the moment would be Sam Tompkins. He has only just signed a new contract though and with his brother, and potentially Ashton (who is one of his best mates), down at Saffas I would imagine they would snare him first. I don't like Saffas but they have done well to put a partnership together with Wigan moving forward.

Re: Rugby League
I disagree that Hape, Myler and Barnes are great players. Ashton and Williams could become great players in time, but for every successful RL-RU convert there is an underwhelming one.TomR96 wrote:Chris Ashton

Iestyn Harris
Andy Farrell
Chev Walker
Henry Paul
Gareth Raynor
Les Vainikolo
Wendell Sailor
Were all, at best, average Union players and not worth the cash lavished on them. I think clubs should be wary before splashing out on RL stars!

Re: Rugby League
I've tried to like league but failed. doesn't have enough going on for me i'm afraid. Not surprised that only a few RL players have made it cross code.
Re: Rugby League
It used to be a game for all shapes and sizes, but with the inferrence to league stylee, unless you are a 19stone six foot three plus goliath, the sport now does not make itself endearing. The old adage strength of temper and wit is now being slowly erroded to speed and mass!
Lost are the old days of coaching where after several blows to the head my head coach would scream GET YOUR RETALIATION IN FIRST!!!

The maul is back! JUSTICE !
Re: Rugby League
TomR96 did not list Brad Thorn so I read his 'mainly backs' comment to be referring to those he listed, which are all backs.tig1 wrote:Brad Thorn ?TigerAlex wrote:There, I fixed it for you.TomR96 wrote:Chris Ashton

Re: Rugby League
I agree. The charm of RU is that a chunky monkey like Julian White, a goliathn like Martin Johnston, and a whippersnapper like Austin Healey all play an equally vital, yet utterly different, physical function.Tyler wrote:It used to be a game for all shapes and sizes, but with the inferrence to league stylee, unless you are a 19stone six foot three plus goliath, the sport now does not make itself endearing. But I would rue the day when we get like RL up here in Hull. All the players look like clones off Love Island or something and have positional names which mean b*gger all.
Why do they need props?
Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!

Re: Rugby League
Doesn't league specifically have a law about the players momentum and the pass?jgriffin wrote:Certainly, if we reverted to proper scrums and no hands on the deck, the similarities would be the ball, the posts, forward passes and offside.......and not much else.
This is the main reason (IMHO) why Union should not allow the ball to move forwards to allow for the player's momentum - RL made a different law to differentiate from the RU laws
