"Let us make defence our obsession"

Post by fleabane »

This quote was not made by a Tigers player or coach, but by Andy. It is one we should take to heart. Our defence has been shakey for some time, and we saw evidence of it again against a determined Chiefs attack, with missed tackles all across the field. Where is our defence coach?

I agree completely and thought exactly the same when I heard it. It certainly is something that Tigers need to work on. It showed in the Wasps vs. Sarries game that the way to beat Saffacens is with a solid defence meaning they can't get over the gain line.

Andy who?

Exeter's defence of the ball meant very few turnovers for them - and well done to them for that. Points are scored in attack, however.

They are, but any team that scores 28 points should really be winning the game

Totally agree with this topic. Defending is taken too much for granted nowadays. I've seen so many fantastic attacking talents score wonderful tries and then leak two scores later on with poor defending, it's infuriating to watch sometimes. I think it is simply a question of ability. Seeing the fantastic tackle Geordan Murphy put in on Manu in the recent England v Ireland match and the tackles Manu put in on several Irish lads, there was nothing wrong with their defending. Had Manu been charging towards the line with Hamilton or the much touted Tait at full back I doubt the result would have been the same.
