RWC players from the Premiership number 70

Post by rdracup »

Looking through all the squads I believe there are 70 players registered in RWC squads who are also registered with Premiership clubs. The breakdown is:

Tigers 11
Sale 10
Saracens 8
Saints 8
Gloucester 7
London Irish 7
Bath 6
Wasps 3
Quins 3
Exeter 3
Worcester 2
Newcastle 2

I am sure our squad will cope (though I hope Thomas the tank stays fit) as will Sarries; Saints and Bath. Sale, Glaws and Irish may struggle a bit though.

Looking forward to the start of both competitions, put particularly to the Premiership.

There is a good thread on the Sarries forum discussing this.

I've had a quick look. Taking the squad list from wikipedia, pasting into excel and then counting by team name - there may be some errors as the list only has 598 players when I expected 600 and there are possible issues if the name of the team is listed differently in seperate lists (e.g. Clermont were listed as Clermont and Clermont Auvergne, picked that up but may have missed others). For the Magners League, TOP14 and Super however many it is these days, the teams losing most to the world cup are:

1. Leinster (14)
=2. Montpellier, Crusaders, Clermont, Treviso (12)
5. Ospreys (11)
=6. Toulouse, Stade Francais, Scarlets, Reds and Aironi (10)
=11. Waratahs, Glasgow, Blues (9)
=14. Ulster, Stormers, Sharks, Perpignan, Munster, Highlanders, Edinburgh, Cardiff Blues, Biarritz (8)

The worst affected team outside the big leagues are VVA-Podmoskovye losing 14, and the ladies on the board will be delighted to know that 16 of the players going to the world cup are unattached.

Good work Stupid....

So Tigers are equal 5th with the Ospreys in providing 11 players. What do your figures say for Sarries?

Are you winding us up? Click on the link above and it clearly states Saracens are missing 8 players.

Saracens - 8

Jacques Burger (Namibia),Chris Wyles and Hayden Smith (USA), Michael Tagicakibau (Fiji),Kelly Brown (Scotland), Richard Wigglesworth and Matt Stevens (England), John Smit (South Africa)

Here a discussion on our forum (in French but this is easily translated)

Clermont : 13 joueurs
Montpellier et Toulouse : 12 joueurs
Stade Français : 10 joueurs
Biarritz et Perpignan : 8 joueurs
Racing Métro 92 et Toulon : 7 joueurs
Bordeaux-Bègles : 6 joueurs
Castres : 5 joueurs
Agen et Lyon : 3 joueurs
Bayonne et Brive : 2 joueurs

Le Top14 thus supplies 98 players for RWC (16.3 %).

Mais les autres clubs français (Pro D2, Fédérales) ne sont pas en reste en ayant 35 joueurs retenus. 35 players from all other French clubs.
