Hape for Hodgson & then I think MJ would've been ok with this choice - it just requires him to make a straight choice over backup 9 & Simpson would get my vote over Wiggly every time (but I'd probably go for Paul Hodgson over both).Hot_Charlie wrote:Paul Ackford got it right in the Torygraph, IMHO.
He suggested taking Youngs and Simpson as SH, and allowing Foden/Flutey to cover the emergency SH role against weaker sides in the pool to allow Youngs time to rest (that said, I never knew Flutey had/could play at SH, but I'll give Ackford the benefit of the doubt).
PA suggest the blindingly obvious 10/12 axis of Wilkinson/Flood. This left the centres as Tindall, Manu, Flood, and Flutey (on account of the above versatility at 9/10/12), leaving Hape at home, and Banahan covering if necessary. Hodgson would travel as back up 10, although obviously Flood's there in reality.
Gets my vote.

[quote="jgriffin"]My gloom deepens. IMO Flutey/Tuilagi the best combo in a poor choice badly coached.

Absolutely agree Flutey / Manu are the only pairing who have tried / done more than just crash bang.

Flutey played regularly at SH for Wellington and the Hurricanes - he never really settled on a position in NZ and was constantly being played as a 9 and 10 as well as 12. Very much like Matt Giteau, who also started as a 9.Hot_Charlie wrote:Paul Ackford got it right in the Torygraph, IMHO.

Ah, right. I figured it was before he'd come over here, as I knew he'd played 10/12 for Wasps and Irish.4071 wrote: Flutey played regularly at SH for Wellington and the Hurricanes - he never really settled on a position in NZ and was constantly being played as a 9 and 10 as well as 12. Personally I'd far prefer Flutey to travel than Hape, but I suspect I'll be disappointed.

There is an online stream of the announcement from 730 on the RFU website but it will undoubtedly crash.

From what I could gather this morning it will also be shown live on Sky Sports News, with coverage and analysis of other squads from the home nation teams starting at 7. Might not be correct though.

They probably didn't want to get in the way of the cricket.
