Steve Mafi signs 2 years deal with Tigers

The lad shows promise, I'm pleased about this signing. Good for him too I think.

He speaks very respectfully about Tigers, and I've never seen Cockers so effusive in praise as in this interview !

Very good news indeed. Heard him being interviewed on the Rugby Hour earlier this week. Comes across as a very quietly spoken, well balanced and pleasant young man. Already doing well for Tigers and he'll improve even more when he gets some sun on his back!

I'm quite surprised by this deal tbh. Don't get me wrong Mafi is a great player, but with Parling, Deacon and Skivington ahead of him, along with Slater, Green and more than likely Kitchener he's going to have some tough competition at lock. Unless that is he stays at flanker, but even then with the likes of Croft, Newby, Woods, Waldroum, Everard, Armes, Pienaar he's going to struggle to get a place there as well.

Helps us with added depth, but I can't see how it'll get him much game time.

Also, he's played for Tonga before, if he continues this form we wont have him for the world cup either.

Excellent news I think.

But we could see Green and Slater move on. Especially if we get Kitchiner. We cant have them all, and all are young and with great potential. Mafi can also play either flank, where he looks a bit more comfortable. He is young enough to be moulded to suit us. No real losing scenario to me.

He's still young, and has great potential. If he continues to improve at anywhere near the rate he has already, he will be very good. If he is not picked up for Tonga, a good pre-season conditioning will only make him better.

It reads as if interest in Myall cooled as Mafi developed.Maybe some tough choices ahead for Cockers and the coaches regarding one or two other players.

He looks a Tiger through and through,he's got the shirt,so it's up to the others to try and take it off him, competition for places amongst quality players is great news.A very good signing for now and looking ahead. :smt023

I'm really glad Steve Mafi has signed a 2 year contract, he really deserves it, so does this mean Leicester Tigers won't be interested in Worcester Warriors second row Graham Kitchener, who is very highly rated. Despite this, I believe Steve can really outclass any second row, he wins balls in the line outs, he's very quick, got good hands. Good enough to be the next Matt Banahan?

Where do you think Mafi got that step and little swerve he showed against Wasps!

I think i'd be more worried if i was Woods, Everard, Armes & Pienaar......

Steve can play anywhere amoungst the back 5 and has proved his metal!
Newby, Croft, Waldroum, but then you have Crane & Maffi to choose from depending upon conditions.
He's then also cover for Deacs, Skivington & Geoff Man!

A great signing and a fully fit squad will be a headache any coach would love!

Well done Steve, a very well deserved player of the month :smt023
