Castro contract worth £300,000 a year?
It has been rumoured that Martin Castrogivanni's new contract could be at a massive £300,000 a year, making him the second most highest paid prop in the world, with the leading prop, Carl Heymans who earned £330,000 when he was at the Newcastle Falcons. Do you think this is a good deal, or a not?

Despite all this money, I believe Stade Francais offered him £500,000 a year, making him the second highest earning rugby player in the world.

compared to £500,000 no its not but with his obvious passion for the club, the fans and a city full of pasta loving folk he must be laughing!TomR96 wrote:Do you think this is a good deal, or a not?
i think the satisfaction he'll get from winning cups with us will make up for the missing £200,000 he could have earnt elsewhere
Re: Castro contract worth £300,000 a year?
I expect the Castros deal would be (a) cast iron secret and (b) nowhere near £300k. In many cases the difference between "rumour" and "speculation" is only spelling.

I am reliably informed that Castro's remuneration is the same as the Prime Minister. But that he has a guarantee as to how many will dine in his restaurants!!
Still keeping the faith!

He is definitely worth £300,000 but i doubt he is getting that.

I don't think the figure will be anywhere near £300,000.
Perhaps £200,000, and a promise of being looked after when retirement comes around?

Perhaps a large sum and the promise of removal of the chains fastening me to his ankles?

Would it not be a larger sum for you not to be removed?Rizzo wrote:Perhaps a large sum and the promise of removal of the chains fastening me to his ankles?

Re: Castro contract worth £300,000 a year?
I have no factual basis for this thought whatsoever - but I have a suspicion that Castros renumeration is not based solely around The Rugby Club and payment for his on field activities.
If hypothetically this were true, then
a) is this a return to the principles used in the days of Shamateurism?
b) will this increasingly be a way around the salary cap by those clubs that can afford it?
c) If it is difficult to prove off field renumeration (ie via business interests etc) and on field payment are linked then does it make the wage cap an unsustainable joke?
d) if it is an unsustainable joke then will it be De Ja Vu? - will it crumble just as amateurism did ?
e) finally if it crumbles will there be the same level of casualties from the fall out ? and will Leeds and Wasps etc. follow Richmond and London Scottish into Liquidation and remergence in the lower leagues?

Blimey, so Castro could singlehandedly ensure the demise of Waspies, just by signing a contract with Tigers - what a guymightymouse wrote:e) finally if it crumbles will there be the same level of casualties from the fall out ? and will Leeds and Wasps etc. follow Richmond and London Scottish into Liquidation and remergence in the lower leagues?
I used to be indecisive now I just can't make up my mind
Re: Castro contract worth £300,000 a year?
Like water, fiscal value finds its level eventually. Non-rugby revenue, testimonials, all kinds of methods are no doubt currently in use to remunerate players in order to retain their interest and services that circumvent the salary cap for certain players. Until Rugby gets a whole lot better supported I do not see this escalating out of control.
Re: Castro contract worth £300,000 a year?
That'd be £300k well spent! I'd chip in at least twenty notes if it'd make a difference.
