Now don't get paranoid or anything but the Quins supporters association enjoyed a jolly evening on November 3rd with a presentation and Q&A from...

Mr Wayne Barnes

http://www.rugbynetwork.net/main/harleq ... es-tonight

He did spend time with the team too, clarifying things.

This is all normal stuff of course, but given the collective paranoia (which, I must confess sticks its tongue out at me from time to time) I thought it might amuse some folks. I would have liked to have gone to a Tiger's evening like this and ask about what a ruck is for if you can't use your feet or hands.

Not another one!! Are you BJ's clone?

Stop trying to embarass posters. We should be trying to encourage them not trying to make them feel small. :smt018 :smt018

In any case, in Hull what was written IS correct grammar. In the deep south of Gosport it might be something different.

Sorry, is there anything wrong with my grammar? Perhaps the wrong 'there'? No? I didn't think so.

It does make some of us cringe though. :smt011
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

So do some of Mr Barnes's decisions.
Re my earlier: does anyone know what you can do when a ruck is called?
One of you refs must know

Fall over or if you are a scrum half wave your arms about?

Well, it all used to be so v.simple. When a ruck is called players may contest for the ball with their feet provided they are behind the ball. And it was explained to me that as it is a gentleman's game and gentlemen do not break laws that fellow lying there cannot possibly exist as he would be in an illegal position.

Going back to the posting, reffing is a tough job and all refs have good days and bad days, as do the players.

I would agree with jgriffin that Poite has had some decent games of late and he would be top of my favourite list at the moment.

In any game a ref is going to miss the odd forward pass or knock on. It is consistancy in the application of the rules from one game to the next, particularly at the breakdown and scrum, which sends the seasoned observer round the twist. Things are not helped with the new instruction that the ref counts to thirty between each command when setting the scrum. So far it seems to have made matters worse with consequental reset after reset.

Let's hope Wayne has a good game on Friday :smt002

I'm sure Wayne will have a good game though I think to some that might mean ensuring Tigers win. I know he is not rated by many on this site, but I'll never know why. Despite what we think he is rated, by the IRB, as one of the very best in the world. Shows how bad the rest must be.
