Stuart State the bleeding obvious' Barnes
Why oh why do we have to put up with this trumped up, one eyed, state the bleeding obvious, out of touch with professionalism jerk. Since listening to Austin & Ben on ESPN its made me realise how out of touch 'Dwarf' is. With plenty of retired, ex pro players about who have experienced 'modern demands and tactics' of the modern game why put up with this bloke who last played the game competitively 15+yrs ago?
Lets freshen up the Sky commentary and let Barnes get on with writing his articles for papers where we have a choice whether to read him or not!

Re: Stuart State the bleeding obvious' Barnes
Sorry but you are totally wrong - he is streets ahead of the amateur bumblings on ESPN (I'd even rather have Brian Moore than them - at least he's quite entertaining in an annoying sort of way) and although I often disagree with Stuart, he is an informed and capable commentator!
Your opinion is just that - an opinion - and a very biased one at that.
As for ESPN - their camera work is decidedly inferior to Sky's, and although I believe that Austin Healey should develop into a good commentator, Ben Kay has no presence whatsover.

I have to agree. I find him highly annoying, he hypes up the comments with roundball style football commentry. I would love to have Brian Moore and Jonathan Davies any day.
All good 7's play on the edge if not they are a waste of space!!
Re: Stuart State the bleeding obvious' Barnes
What? Jonathan "Crew-shull" Davies? He is probably the least objective commentator I've ever heard.
No-one is ever going to be another Bill McLaren but SB has certainly improved and become more neutral as time has gone by.

And what was so special about Biased Bill McLaren? While he had an interesting turn of phrase, if Scotland were on the pitch, none of them, especially Gavin Hastings, could do any wrong.

This has to be the worst and most inaccurate post I have read on here for a very long time. And what was so special about Biased Bill McLaren? While he had an interesting turn of phrase, if Scotland were on the pitch, none of them, especially Gavin Hastings, could do any wrong
May I suggest that before posting something like this in the future you research your own question first.
i.e. What was so special about Bill McLaren? Rugby lovers around the world would tell you first and foeremost his total lack of bias even when his beloved Scotland were playing.
Shame on you!!

But then, Stuart Barnes isn't biased either.
And the reason he might state the obvious is that his remit is to entertain, educate and inform ALL of his listeners and viewers, and not to assume that they are all professors of rugby.
I often watch rugby with people with less knowledge than me (unbelievable, I know) and they are always asking me about aspects of the game. Why do people run into contact when they could have passed? Why does a team choose to take a scrum when the ref has offered them other choices? What is crossing? Why do I shout "ooooo!" when someone gets clothes-lined across their throat?
These things, and a thousand others, need explaining, and if Stuart Barnes is doing it then good on him.

Barnes is not as one-eyed as he used to be, and is knowledgeable. Dewi Morris, on the other hand, offers little. Although large.
