Fly-Half Injuries - would we get dispensation to sign a temp

Post by MurphysLaw »

Without knowing the extent of Jezza's injury, we now appear to have three of our fly-halves crocked. Does this potentially give rise to the Club seeking dispensation to sign a replacement?

Not that there is likely to be many good 10s sitting around, but bringing in a decent sh replacement for a few weeks might help us out of a tight spot.

TBH, I would sooner see Chuter play at 10 than Cipriani.

Numbers injured is not relevant, length of time is. Let's hope Jezza is ok soon, although Cockers has said that "we will have to persevere with Billy".

As fleabane says, numbers of injuries don't matter.

Dispensations are only given for players who are out with long term injuries. (I think it is for injuries with recovery time of more than 12 weeks but I'm happy to be corrected.)

Also, all this dispensation means is that the injured player's salary for the period of the injury is ignored in the salary cap figure.

The club would still have the be able to afford, fund and indeed FIND a replacement player to act as cover. The dispensation doesn't cover the cost of the new signing, it only allows a club to spend over the cap to the extent of the injured player's salary.

Isn't it a combination of both length of injury and amount of cover in the squad?

Also, I don't think anyone was suggesting that dispensation to sign a replacement included funding the player, but thanks for clarifying that.

Let's hope that Staunton, and Ford are not out for long, and of course that Floody mends quickly.

No, it is solely down to the length of time the injury is for.

I believe that the only exception to this is in the front row, where specialised players are required under the Laws of the game in order to keep scrums contested.

For non-front row players, salary cap dispensation for injured players is only granted for those deemed to be long-term injuries.

If flood does mend quickly he will still be away with England for the Autumn Internationals so Tigers wont see the benefit.

Err...doesn't that depend on how quickly he mends?
Either way, it would be good to see him mend quickly, wouldn't it?

Much as I like the idea of rushing out to buy cover for injuries. maybe this is a good opportunity to give 36 some game time ?

It also means Manu is more likely to get game time in the centres too & I think we all want to see him on the pitch more often ? (I expect Smith & Hipkiss to start on Sat though).
