Examples of soccer heroism are few and far between. But pictures of Terry Butcher at the end of the England v Sweden game have been circulated to the England camp.

1989, England needed a point. Butcher got his head cut open at the start of the game. He went off briefly and came back on stitched up and with a bandage on his head. But he kept heading the ball and opening up the cut more and more.

By the end of the game he came off drenched in blood. Can't be bothered with a link but if you google it, the picture will pop right up. It looks effing horrible.

I have just watched a DVD of that game and Cole got his eye injury within 5 minutes of kick-off and did well to play for as long as he did. He is a hero. He is a Leicester Tiger. Nuff said.
