The Demise of the English prem?
Just a thought - comparing to a few recent years when the English prem had teams in Heiny semis and dominated the Euro Shield with up to 4 semifinalits and nearly always providing the winner based purely on the strength of the prem.
Where are the English teams now!! - looks to me to be going very much in the wrong direction and aiming at mediocrity?
any thoughts folks?

Also a result of the salary cap.

To put our position in perspective, had we won rather than drawn our home game with the hairspreys,we might be still in the competition,it was that close.I am confident that our club will continue to fly the flag in europe for the GP and I daresay that our near neighbours on the dark side of market harborough will too.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.

Re: The Demise of the English prem?
English players are not great at the moment.
MJ is having a job getting any kind of decent Egland team put together. We can all argue the toss about who he picks, but he just seems to have a few old war horses, and a mass of youngsters who supposedly possess "promise" but don't deliver regularly or, indeed, when it really matters.
A thread on the unoffy regarding who are Tigers best three players gets an awful lot of votes for Geordan Murphy, Castro, Ayerza and Hamilton.
So importing non-English players might be the key to success, but the salary cap would prevent an Arsenal-style foreign legion.
So English clubs are stuffed until English clubs start producing players capable of defeating clubs outside of the GP.

Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!
Re: The Demise of the English prem?
Dead easy! Get rid of all the foreign players - sorry Gordon but I'm not a bigot. Just allow UK born and bred players - nope that would no good cause Sarries wouldn't have a team.

Re: The Demise of the English prem?
Isn't this the first year in about 6 there wasn't an English team in the semi finals?
And this is the firs year where the Challenge Cup has featured few better teams later in the competition (HC Rejects).
Just the way things go, rub of the green, nature of knockout competition...

Difficult to judge over one season - how well did the French clubs do last season?
However, if the same happens next year, then maybe we should be worried.

Re: The Demise of the English prem?
we will do better next year. there are a few english clubs producing a lot of great talent at the moment and playing some good stuff if they can do that next year as well then i think a few clubs from england have a real chance.
Re: The Demise of the English prem?
I think you have to go with the blip this year. lets see what happens next year before saying there is a problem. Salary cap is an issue as is the amount of games played compared to the cider league.
when was the last time tigers had a healthy squad to choose from during the european campaign? next year will be different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone going to flashback to this time last year?
Pretend you're French, and give a quick analysis of French rugby 12 months ago.
Worst ever HC showing, with just 1 quarter-finalist.
Poor Amlin showing, with only 2 quarter-finalists, and Bourgoin losing in the final.
Too meny imports dominating the domestic club scene.
Poor 6N showing, coming in 3rd. Inexperienced international manager demonstrating often bizarre selections.
Is this the demise of French rugby?
