i wouldnt mind a group of
tigers
cardiff
toulon
treviso
would be a tough group to get through but i think its better coming through a hard group than an easy group.

Toulon will be a tier 4 team.

I'd take Cardiff or USAP over Ospreys or ASM. Although I think Cardiff still have an outside chance of being in tier 1.

last years rankings were
Tier 1, Leinster, Munster, Leicester Tigers, Toulouse, Bath Rugby, Biarritz Olympique

Tier 2, Cardiff Blues, Stade Français, Gloucester Rugby, Perpignan, Ospreys, London Irish

Tier 3, Northampton Saints, Sale Sharks, Clermont Auvergne, Scarlets, Ulster, Newport Gwent Dragons

Tier 4, Harlequins, Glasgow Warriors, Edinburgh, Benetton Treviso, Brive, Viadana
so northampton may swap places with gloucester.

Yes i thought that too....but they will be losing 6 points this year after finishing 4th in their group, and they will be below wasps and Northampton in the rankings

guys dont forget that if leinster were to win it again then biaritz would not be a tier 1 team as the winning side is automatically ranked 1

Leinster are assured of tier 1 status anyway.

The last spot in tier 1 will, I believe, go to either BOPB or Cardiff. Cardiff could be either 1 or 2, BOPB could yet be the highest ranked team that fails to qualify. Its in their own hands, but could also depend on the fortunes of Toulon in the ACC as well as Toulouse in the HEC.

If Wasps were to win the Amlin, there is a good chance that they could get into the top tier.

6 points are awarded to the winner of the Amlin.

Wasps currently on 19 points would lose 3, which drop off leaving them on 16.

They could finish on 22 points

Wasps are likely to be tier 1 anyway, but I agree could be pipped at the post for tier 1 status by BOPB and Cardiff.

In the event of Wasps slipping to tier 2, that would increase the possibility of us drawing Ospreys or ASM Clermont.

I agree....not because of the supporters as you lot are a great bunch and we have a good laugh with some great banter...but there have been too many games in recent times with too many "issues" and I believe a break would be good for both sides.

I concur triage,

But will ERC conspire to arrange it?

I think the sides need an break from each other to let things cool down. An dit would be nice to play someone else in the HC for a change!

Rankings are as follows at the moment: (taking into account this season's results so far and excluding those from 2005/06)

1 Munster, 2 Leinster, 3 Toulouse, 4 Leicester, 5 Wasps, 6 Biarritz*, 7 Cardiff Blues, 8 Stade Francais**, 9 Clermont Auvergne, 10 Northampton, 11 Ospreys, 12 Bath, 13 Gloucester*, 14 Scarlets*, 15 Perpignan, 16 London Irish, 17 Saracens, 18 Sale**, 19 Ulster, 20 Glasgow, 21 Harlequins*, 22 Bourgoin**, 23 Edinburgh, 24 Dragons, 25 Newcastle**, 26 Worcester**, 27 Connacht*, 28 Treviso, 29 Brive**, 30 Castres, 31 Toulon, 32 Bristol**, 33 Agen**, 34 Viadana, 35 Montauban**, 36 Leeds**, 37 Montpellier**, 38 Bayonne**, 39 Racing Metro.

22 teams have already qualified, 6 French, 6 English, 3 Welsh, 3 Irish, 2 Scots, 2 Italian. The teams marked with * can still qualify depending on who wins the two trophies. The teams marked with ** cannot qualify regardless of results.

The 8 teams remaining in the comps can still get points and climb the rankings, although the top 4 are all guaranteed to be top sides next season.
