Mauger - retires due to back injury
What's happened to Mauger? I know he is leaving to get back into the AB world cup squad but was the agreement that we keep in cotton wool until the end of the season? From memory he can on against Viadana on 16th Jan, scored a try and that's the last we have seen of him.
We certainly need him at this stage of the season.

I assume that's the Royal 'we', because you don't speak for me.mike wrote:We don't need him .
IMO we should look to retain him on the coaching staff, the influence he could have on the younger players could/would be immense. But then maybe he'll go into the AB training set-up.
Shame a World class player has been forced to retire due to a persistent injury, did more than enough at Tigers for me to thank him for his efforts.
Each to their own.
Good Luck AM!
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

Re: Mauger
It's a shame that such a great player has to hang up his boots early. I think he has done alot for us in the time he has been here and will be missed.

Re: Mauger
Sad news.
I don't think we saw the best of him at Welford Road, to may injuries unfourunately, but there is no doubt to the level of commitment he gave the team and the help hes has been to the younger players in the squad.
Good luck Mauger in where ever life takes you next.

Re: Mauger
hes been a great player for us when hes fit but unfourtunately he has had more than his fair share of injuries good luck to him for whatever he does in the future.
Re: Mauger - retires due to back injury
Not unexpected, but always sad when injuries curtail a career.
At his best he was outstanding but sadly he has been but a shadow of that towards the end of his career.

Re: Mauger - retires due to back injury
He was outstanding in the first season with us, and really made a difference to our back line when he was playing. Great to see him play for the Tigers, and a massive shame that he's had to retire.
Re: Mauger - retires due to back injury
This is a real shame. He was without question one of the best All Blacks of his generation. In my opinion, he was the player they missed the most after the great post-world cup exodus.
It's always a shame when injury stops a career short. However, I'd urge him to look at this as the start of a new career. By all accounts he has been a real leader to younger players and has the makings of being a very successful coach.

A great shame, we will never know if we saw his best. The flashes of brilliance were great.
A big thanks to you, and I hope you can get well enough to enjoy your retirement.
