Jerry Flannery - now banned for 6 weeks
This guy is a disgrace to the game. Never have I seen such a mindless, vile and premeditated piece of foul play than his maniacal kick at the French winger in yesterdays match. Had he connected 'properly' then at least one of them would have had broken bones. The guys a thug. I don't know if he will get cited but IMO that was as bad as gouging and I hope he gets a very long ban. What was Wayne Barnes thinking and didn't the AR's see it????? Should have been a straight red card (but then he probably wouldn't get cited). Disgusting.

Re: Gerry Flannery
I heard on the radio commentary that he had tried to kick the ball, but when I saw the TV replay I did wonder which ball he was going for

Re: Gerry Flannery
Surely a citing and no further involvement in the 6 nations.
Keith Woods was nearly choking on his own words as he suggested he was trying to kick the ball and was a few seconds late!

Re: Gerry Flannery
Rush of blood,I think, judging by his reactions afterwards,he should clearly be banned for a long time however, unacceptable.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.

Re: Gerry Flannery
Wayne Barnes clearly said that he didn't see the incident. He consulted the AR who said it was a shoulder barge. Hardly Wayne's fault.
Re: Jerry Flannery
Absolutely agree, Derby Tiger.
Wayne Barnes has (deservedly, at times) got a lot of stick on this forum, and elsewhere, but consulting the Touch Judge over the Flannery incident was absolutely the right thing to do.
Quite how the TJ didn't see one of the ugliest pieces of foul-play in recent memory is totally beyond me. I hope Flannery is embarrassed and ashamed of himself.

Re: Jerry Flannery
I was watching with a couple of other people and there was a sharp intake of breath at the incident. Our first thought was for the French player, we thought his leg could have been broken.
Then astonishment when he was not red carded, just viewed it again and it still looks like a red card.

Re: Jerry Flannery
Possible citing. He's Irish so 2 week ban.
Had he been French 52 week ban.
Had he been French 52 week ban.
Still keeping the faith!
Re: Jerry Flannery
Last week the welsh chap Alun Wyn Jones got 10 mins for a trip and allthought he could have been red carded it was probably about right. This week Jerry Flannery kicks a player into the air and gives away a penalty for not tackilng with the arms!
Even in that odd round shapped ball game that would have been a bad tackle resulting in a straight red.
OK the ref didn't see it asked the touch judge and he apparently didn't see much of it . There surely must be a citing and a lengthy ban. 2 weeks or a £5,000 fine will not cover this one!

I have just watched it, I can't see how any defence can be used, he wasn't trying to kick the ball, the Frenchman had picked up the ball and was running !!!!!!
