Trips used to be red cards!
How come AWJ only got yellow?, tripping in school boy matches are straight reds! When will we have consistency across all levels of the game?

Re: Trips used to be red cards!
it might have been a red card in schoolboy rugby , but it was worth a shedload points for our boys and without it we wouldn't have won.
In this case one player 10 minutes in the sin bin lost the game for Wales.

Re: Trips used to be red cards!
Colin Charvis suggested that it wasn't even worth a yellow! All I can say is "thankyou" to such a prat of a player.
Re: Trips used to be red cards!
My recollection is that a similar trip happened in last years fixture, but got missed by the officials. Could be wrong though, anyone else remember anything?
Re: Trips used to be red cards!
A trip is actually quite a nasty foul.
One such trip (admittedly from behind) cost me 12 weeks in a full plaster (toe to hip) and 12 months out of the game entirely, because it caused a spiral fracture of the tib & fib, which is often the case.
A straight red should be mandatory, not least because it's a very cowardly foul.

Re: Trips used to be red cards!
Had the ref not spotted it a citing would likely have resulted in a 2 to 4 week ban. Technically it still could I suppose, although the laws do suggest a red card would only be awarded for a repeat offence or one that was excessively cynical.Kinoulton wrote:A trip is actually quite a nasty foul.

Still keeping the faith!

No. Ian Gough had taken out Murray off the ball and as Murray was lying on the ground (with Gough kneeling next to him) Murray kicked out and caught Gough in the head. Right in front of the ref.Mr Bean wrote:Didn't scott murray get sent off a couple of years ago for a trip My memory isnt that good?
Steve Walsh (for it was he) pulled out the card and proclaimed it an automatic red, so Murray trotted off. To be fair to him, he apologised to Gough (who got yellow-carded and taken off for blood) before he left the field.
Richard Cockerill: Norm Hewitt had the right idea.....

Re: Trips used to be red cards!
We get the same thing every time there is a trip on a player. If it's on purpose then it's dangerous play on a par with spear tackling in the laws of the game so straight red and a fair few weeks ban regardless of the position or situation of play. As usual the ref bottled it and gave a yellow.

Refs seem to bottle things now and give yellow cards.
Punching is seen as yellow unless its jwhite!!
Lets get the cynical and professional fouls out of our game....RED for all dangerous play!!
