Worcester's Wood to replace Brett Deacon - going to Gloucs?

Post by maskedsquid »

"Worcester have also confirmed that flanker Tom Wood is to leave Sixways at the end of the season.
His destination has not been confirmed but he has been linked with Guinness Premiership champions Leicester Tigers.
Wood, who is a product of the academy at Sixways, was called into the England Saxons squad on Monday, along with Warriors wing Miles Benjamin.
Director of rugby Mike Ruddock told the club's website: "We are disappointed that Tom Wood will leave the club at the end of the season."

If he is coming to Tigers, surely this must mean that someone is leaving. Lewis Moody?

Hoping as post title suggests a replacement for Brett rather than Lewis!

I'm not too sure, but I think Wood is usually a blindside or number eight, which was why I titled the thread "to replace Brett Deacon?".

I thought we were after Thomas Waldrom as well, if we get both someone is leaving and as Moody has been thinking about a move to France ......

Thats quite a lot of 'wood' based names we will have in the team next year. ...

Reckon this is going to be a big transition at the end of the season with our older, big names going to get their pensions in France (who could blame them). Might explain why we arent seeing too many of the youngsters just yet, need to get value for money out of them while they are here!

The word is that 3 foreign players are leaving. Aaron we know about. As for the others, Alex T., Castro, Marcos, Newby, Lote and Scotty have all been named, but I assume we won't lose the lot, (although that would probably please the "home grown Englishmen" brigade). I suppose Muffin , Smurf and Johne could be added to the list too.

I think Cockers has been quoted as saying that the club were looking at Waldrom and several others in case some of our existing guys moved on. Obviously Brett Deacon is one, and Moody might be another. Not sure who else is out of contract. Anyone know how long Craig Newby signed for?

Castro and Ayerza both signed three year contract extensions, beginning last year, so have another year each according to this. (assuming, of course, they aren't looking to get out early)

Worcester player on the way to Tigers?

Post by Mat »

Worcester have announced that Wood will not be resigning for them. Rumour is that he is on the way to tigers. Being a back row player I guess he replaces Brett in the squad. If its true!
