England squad is announced...

Hape is in, which is a bit of a shock. Ashton is in for Vickery which shows a bit of imagination from Johnson!

It doesn't look too bad on the Leicester front, I think we'll be ok, and it means a call up for Twelvetrees hopefully, and maybe Vesty can step in and do the business for us again!

How can they pick Payne after the awful autumn ints, and how he was destroyed on Saturday ? Form is (awful) temporary but (lack of) class is permanent with him it seems.

Im not happy that Payne has been picked, is this not the guy who got demolished by Dan Cole last weekend, the opposition props must be licking their lips. Also i dont understand how Harry Ellis has been picked, hes not fully fit as far as we know and certainly isn't Tigers first choice at the moment, regarding fitness the same could be said about Julian White too.Hape and Ashton are great choices though in my opinion and its nice to see some young faces coming through, although i just would of liked to see a couple more too.

In the article I read, as with the squad crateman's posted, Ashton's name doesn't feature in the squad - though I see that he's apparently made the senior team rather than the Saxons?

Anyway, unsurprised but frustrated about Payne and Banahan. Pleased that Foden's recognised as an actual fullback, but doubt he'll get any gametime.

Are there not constraints on how many changes Johnno can make?

Im guessing we are just kind of stuck with Payne until players come back from injury. I would have like to have seen Flatman get a shot instead though.

Plus he can only make something like 5 changes, excluding bringing injured players back from the original summer squad.

But thanks to MJ for not taking Cole, Parling and Youngs from us! :smt001

I also noticed Ashton's name was missing, he'll be happy it turns up in the Saxons though! From RFU website:

Player Club
David Attwood Gloucester Rugby
Duncan Bell Bath Rugby
George Chuter Leicester Tigers
Dan Cole Leicester Tigers
Alex Corbisiero London Irish
Phil Dowson Northampton Saints
Ben Kay Leicester Tigers
Nick Kennedy London Irish
Matthew Mullan Worcester Warriors
David Paice London Irish
Tom Rees London Wasps
Chris Robshaw Harlequins
Andy Saull Saracens
George Skivington London Wasps
Dan Ward-Smith London Wasps
Rob Webber London Wasps
Nick Wood Gloucester Rugby
Ben Woods Leicester Tigers

Backs
Player Club
Chris Ashton Northampton Saints
Brad Barritt Saracens
Danny Cipriani London Wasps
Shane Geraghty Northampton Saints
Charlie Hodgson Sale Sharks
Stephen Myler Northampton Saints
Olly Morgan Gloucester Rugby
Paul Sackey London Wasps
Joe Simpson London Wasps
David Strettle Harlequins
Dominic Waldouck London Wasps
Richard Wigglesworth Sale Sharks
Mickey Young Newcastle Falcons

So the RFU can't even manage to organise a press release, no surprise there then!

Bill I tought under EPS rules it was 5 changes allowed? injured players don't know

I have no doubt in Harry Ellis ability but he can't get into our squad at present and Whitey I believe is back for this weekend

Tim Payne after recent form is a JOKE! but I bet Dan Cole won't be laughing though

Lets hope he brings Ben Youngs up from Saxons to Senior Squad PDQ

But congrats to all our players!! :smt041

Very surprised not to see Ben Youngs in there.

OK, I'm biased. But lots of people who are not biased (like the TV pundits and newspaper jouralists), clearly think he's the best bet by far on current form.

As for Tim Payne, as the contributors to the Sky discussion (on the above link) agreed almost unanimously, he's been destroyed in two games running.

Perhaps we need him for his clinical finishing? :smt009

Picking a back line from that squad would to me seem like a pretty inventive and dangerous attacking force. Lacking in experience perhaps, but there would a lot of enthusiasm, vigour and Pace:

P Hodgson
T Flood
M Cueto
R Flutey
D Armitage
C Ashton
B Foden

People would certainly sit up and take notice if that team took to the field.

Ben Youngs is in Saxons Squad - injry replacement for Joe Simpson.

See http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_u ... 455347.stm

I think the Saxons Squad and EPS need to be viewed together.

Youngs is in the Saxons for the injured Simpson.

He may get a call up if Ellis is unfit.

White and Sheridans fitness will be assessed soon, and may also be replaced before the 6N.
