A different charge to Cockers so will get 30 minutes community service and a reprimand.
I say hang him in Watford town square! OK may be too good for him so a flogging on the centre line of the home of rugby!

Send him back to SA!!!

Seriously, though Cockers abused the ref in private (to his face). Venter made his comments in a Press Conference.
Still keeping the faith!

To quote Saracens...
"He did not question the integrity of the referee at any stage and, in fact, on the contrary, stressed on several occasions he does not believe any of the officials are dishonest."

Does that mean that Venter is accusing Leicester of being dishonest when he said "For some reason, something happened to this poor referee and there was basically a 12-count penalty swing. There was one referee in the first half, he walked through a maze or something, and he came out another referee."

What he really should admit is that, although he didn't say anything to his team at half time, Cockers probably did, and the Tigers went out in the second half and murdered the Sarries in the scrum so much so that they couldn't help but give away so many penalties.

Perhaps a better coach would have said something to his team at half time rather than working out his post match vitriol!

by now someone must have analysed every sarrie match and come up with the penalty count for and against. But what must now count is the the validity of every call.
Sorry Bill he cannot be shipped back to SA as the comittee will be deprived of the port and stilton and the paying public deprived of the laughable and lamentable punishment.

When Venter is found guilty, could Tigers sue him for Slander?

Venter is one of only twelve men in England who are head coaches/managers of a Premier rugby club. That means that he has almost unlimited access to the media to say anything he wants about any rugby topic.

It shows a lack of judgement, and perhaps immaturity as a head coach, that he allowed himself to be swayed by his obvious passion and sense of injustice into such a rant.

If he is genuinly trying to say that the refereeing is sub-standard, he could have given interviews later in the week, when he'd have had an opportunity to show himself as a rational, concerned manager. He could have asked for a meeting with the RFU - who are the people with the power to change things - to be allowed to express his concerns. He could have spent time contacting other clubs to see what they feel, so that there could be a concerted, broadly based statement issued on the matter.

Everyone agrees that the situation with refereeing needs looking at, but his outburst doesn't seem the best way to force that investigation, if he's serious about it, that is.

It occurs to me that two factors (at least) may result in apparently different refereeing decisions from one half to the other - firstly, all the officials will discuss the first half during half-time (without secondary input) and may well agree that interpretations were inaccurate, or that some aspects were missed; secondly, the coaches will analyse what was happening and tell the players what they may be able to do about it in the second half.

As with many sports, rugby is a game of two halves!

I have some sympathy for Venter as all Clubs and coaches are concerned about the way the breakdown is being reffed. This needs to be dealt with and raised with the RFU.

I do not have any sympathy for him in the way that he has gone about it - mouthing of to the media. As Rob Andrew stated, there are proper channels which he should have gone through.
Also, Venter was wrong to disclose the nature of conversations / letters between Morrison and Campsall, if true. If all information was given to the media, then the RFU may take a hard line and just say tough and may not work as closely with the Clubs and coaches.

Venter is wrong with what he has done and should take any punishment on the chin.

I never understood why the simplest rule for any given situation is not applied.

Why change rules that add complication ? Hard for players, hard for refs, dull for fans IMO.

I agree totally with the rest of your post....however with regards the part above the IRB (and not just the RFU) should be looking at this....after all it was the IRB directives before the season started that have made referee's (and as a result players) lives a nightmare this year.
