Leicester v Clermont Auvergne

Post by tigermad »

:smt006 :smt006

Leicester looking to bounce back in the Heineken Cup against Clermont Auvergne this weekend after the loss in Clermont last weekend. Nothing is ever impossible with Tigers but a monumental effort required for this game and what a treat before Christmas.

It will take a big bounce.

They were outplayed in France and looked very static. They have lacked penetration in midfield, I had hoped Flood would provide this but not as yet, Alex T tried a couple of times but little came of it.

We are a team short on ideas and confidence.

They need some inspiration this week at oval park!

I actually thought Toby looked very good yesterday, though was disgusted in the 1st 20mins having just watched Sale and Quins open it up to see the ball being thudded in the air with no quality chase or direction. Flood had a couple of brilliant jinking runs, that didnt lead to anything but I really felt he looked top class yesterday, and his commitment was second to none

I have been taking advice from from some friends in High Wycombe. I am reliably informed that it will be a bit parky this weekend. Perhaps we need to call the match off now, then wait until we hit a bit of form for the replay.

I hope we don't play Mauger - keep the turnstiles off the pitch.
In some ways having Flood back exposes Mauger they see Flood & think "Big lad, better run at the centre.

I know Flood's our best fly half but the better combination may be him at oustside centre and Vesty at fly half if fit.

I thought Allen had a good game so would be harsh to drop him for Hipkiss.

As suggested elsewhere. Bring in Vesty and Twelvetrees. Drop Mauger and Hamilton. Tuqiri or Vesty to Full back.

I am sure Flood will play, but he has to give us more chance at the kick off...they went too far and game them too much time.

For me if every Tigers player in the remaining fixtures plays like Anthony Allan did on sunday, we can qualify. He was by far our best player....IMHO

Maguer clearly had a bad game. The worrying thing was how defensively poor we were, missed tackles in the centre and poor positional cover allowing a three man overlap at one point.

Much of the kicking seemed pointless and there was a lack of a Plan B when Plan A clearly wasn't working.

Saturday will be nothing if not interesting.

I think Tuquiri has looked really suspect under the high ball....suspect doing anything in fact, really. Wouldn't trust him at full back with the likely blitzkrieg of high balls into our 22 on Saturday.

Wouldnt fancy LT at full back. If Hamilton is due a rest then Johne was a full back. Only Geordan would fit the bill really though!

Johne would be my full back in the absence of SH. The Vest...although magnificent last year ......would be playing under prressure in his forst game back. A huge ask.
