Cranes Kicking

Post by casinonik »

Needless to point out Crane got the winning kick in Cardiff.

Yesterday he cleared the line for us with a punt that again seemed to be very well taken and made good ground much to the fans delight.

For someone who normally like to have that blue scrumhat burried deep into any ruck or maul has he let this whole kicking get to him?

I wonder what odds i can get for Crane to kick a winning dropgoal in Edinburgh

I fully admit I cheered and laughed when Jordan cleared the ball but I hope it doesn't become a regular thing.

He's a forward who needs to be clearing out rather than a 9th back :)

Tactically, the clearance kick was absolutely the right thing to do.

I would have been a bit more worried if he had been wearing 1 or 3 on his back! :smt003

I was hoping Crane would get into the pocket and attempt to kick a drop goal at the end, rather than Vesty. Sadly it didnt happen :(

Although Crane's kick for touch yesterday was well executed and tactically a good option (and certainly got a big cheer from me), Ben Kay didn't seem particularly complementary about it in the post match interviews and got the impression that the kicking should be left to the 'experts'. He said something along the line of Cockers telling him to stop practicing kicking during training and concentrate on his real job.

On the other hand, if he did pull off a drop goal you can just here the response from the crowd.

There is of course the issue of FH cover for Vesty with Flood, Hougaard & Mauger all potentially unavailable - we would need a kicker at 10 - maybe Crane will volunteer (but be quickly turned down).

I was impressed by Cranes kick to touch. It was certainly the right thing to do at that stage and his team mates obviously have confidence in him as the ball was passed to him in that position. If they didn't have confidence in him the other backs would tell him to get out the :censored: way so they could take on the kick.

with alot of interchange between the backs and forwards, its not surprising that you get the odd kick from the forwards..if they are in the back line..they should be able to kick..it is football as stated in the clubs name......

Was it against the Lions that Zin Zan popped one over with the boot?
These guys are all-round footballers. At least he was looking up rather than just wanting to run into bodies.
I don't think he'll make a habit of it, at that moment it was okay to do.

Both Zin Zan (against England at that slaughterhouse in RWC 2005) and Neil Back have dropped goals, and I really wouldn't be surprised if Martyn Williams had (ironically, he is a decent kicker).

Forwards taking penalty shots is hardly new either; the great John Eales probably being the most recent and famous high-profile example.

Backy used to kick quite often, chips, long punts and high clears. Why are we grumbling?, he did the right thing at the time.

Exactly , Jordan did the right thing in that situation .

Players should be multi-skilled , as an ex-second row/no8 , I've never understood this idea that forwards can't kick . Of course we can ......now if only the girls could scrummage .

I think Jordan Crane would back himself as a decent kicker. I believe he was on West Brom's books as a goal keeper in his youth. :smt023

I would certainly prefer to see a back row kicking than Julien White (for example) :smt037
