Will we ever play at the Crisp Bowl again?

Post by WharfedaleTiger »

Simple question...

I hate the walkers. I'll put it simply; today was my first game there (only my second live Tigers of the season) and to put it simply; it was terrible. Awful atmosphere, rubbish beer, some ruffian element I've never seen at Tigers before and stewards who had a panic if you dared change seats. Oh, and the bar has nothing like the brilliance and tone of the captains bar.

So, to put it simply, will we/should we ever play there again? I really, really, really hope not; especally with the new CAT stand nearly done.

Oh, and thank god the preposed move didn't happen!

Humm, I'd prefer the City Ground or somewhere a bit bigger TBH. Somewhere with atmosphere as well (Twickers? Villa Park?) I just dislike these identakit stadiums. You just lose all the atmosphere.

Should any of the subsequent phases of the revuilding of Welford Road dictate it we are quite likely to play again at the Crisp Bowl

As long as I get seats as good as the ones I've had for today and last time, I won't mind that much. This time the steward I spoke to was very friendly. I think the fans make the atmosphere mostly, and it seemed pretty reasonable today.

Mind you, my other half refuses to go to games at the Walkers - the rare times he's attended there, we've lost.

I watched the Bath HC game in April and thought the atmosphere was incredible though facilities somewhat limited compared to Welford Road. Agree that there is every likelyhood of having to play a major game at the Walkers Stadium especially when they continue with the redevelopment work once the new Caterpillar Stand is completed.

We might be back there in September if the new CAT stand isn't finished by then. :smt002

Can't see us filling Twickenham or Villa Park to be honest. Our best at the Walkers this year was 24,000 for the HC Quarter-Final.

City Ground would be good though

I sincerely think not.......

What's the point of arranging to play at a modern 31,000 capacity stadium with proper toilets and plenty of snack facilities, good access and good parking. Sell tickets at bargain prices and then get only 16,000 home supporters (including the ruffian element not seen before) to the most important 'home' game of the season.

Even the 24,000 at the Qtr final had to be a little disappointing.

Perhaps a move to the Marston might prove a more attractive proposition to the moners. A shortage of tickets for the 'big' games might give something else to complain about. Should we not be seeing the 30,000 plus that will eventually fill (?) Welford Road

The Walkers had no atmosphere due to the supporters not turning up as many of them do not agree with the PO system, again Barf sent back some tickets as they did for the HEC QF. Normally Tigers Bath game would be a major sell out but may be the Tigers faithful were saving money for the Finals??

Walkers has had good atmpshere for Tigers games....Toulouse, Bath x2 and the Scarlets. Its up to the fans to create the atmpshere......where was Swing Low yesterday??????

Nicely sums up the negativity we sometimes see on here, it makes me wonder exactly what some people expect.

Some people might be pleased that we had a perfectly acceptable alternative on our doorstep, whilst Welford Road was unavailable. Clearly too much to ask.
