Can Wasps be reported for cheating over uncontested scrums?

Post by Tyzot »

As Wasps took the opportunity for uncontested scrums tonight, they brought on Varley who they claimed was a hooker - who I understand from Sky's website is an "on loan prop". Martin Corry made the point to the ref who said that this point had been checked. If true this would seem a deleberate deception by Wasps which should be penalised.

Can anybody confirm his status?

Case history says they will get away with it. If a side declares it cannot contest then that is it.

IMHO they should then forfiet the match!!
The opinion expressed above is that of the author and does not imply any acceptance of it by Leicester Football Club PLC or their agents who in no way share responsibility with the author for its publication.

Could be lazy jornalism from Sky. Wouldn't be the first time.

Something was fishy about the uncontested scrums but I think we still would have lost.

Iain could be right - every other site lists him as a hooker - B*gger - worth a try.

But seriously even Stuart Barnes was calling for an end to this tactic.

Hi all,

Just had to post this to "vent" abit about Wasps.

That's the 3rd time in their last three "biggies" they have gone to uncontested scrums.

Against you in the GP final, against us (Bath :smt003 ) in the GP play off and now tonight.

What's the connecting factor ?

Each game their scrum was getting beaten up !

The RFU has got to do something about this disgraceful behaviuor.

The solution is simple and the clue is in the title. That is if you can't contest a scrum then you automatically loose it. My bet is you would only see them very, very rarely then!

In the T14 a couple of seasons ago, the French had issues with uncontested scrums and decided to bring in a local law that if a team lost a prop and couldn't replace him with another prop, then they couldn't replace him at all.

Uncontested scrums... but 15 v 14.

The number of uncontested scrums plummeted.

It worked so well, they approached the IRB about instituting it worldwide.

The IRB came back to them and said that in their opinion there was no problem in the game with uncontested scrums, so they would not introduce a new law.

Clearly they were too busy with ELVs....

I would say that the way to get rid of this mess of uncontested scrums is that if you cannot field a front row to contest the scrum then you forfit the game. If this means having 7 props on the bench then so be it, teams will learn to deal with it.

either this or have props as non registered subs, so if you use up all of you're props then you can bring and extra one from the bench but you then cannot use another replacment.

My only word of caution with all this, is that with what the club have gone through with Matt Hampson we do not want to get into a situation where we have players who are not 100% going into full contact scrums, its not safe.

perhaps someone on the terrace near the wasps bench could confirm,
but from listening to the radio leicester commentary from the A&L stand, they said vickery only went off with a cut and could actually come back on.

last 5 games between us and wasps,
we've won 2, they've won 3,
guess which 3 went to uncontested scrums?

hurray for the French! the scrum is a huge and integral part of rugby union, so let's take a leaf out of their book and get rid of this stupidity.

what with the ELVs discussed on another thread and this, we might just as well watch rugby league.

That really is a damning statistic.

As I have put on another thread, I hope for any things sacred about Rugby Union that we don't see Vickery or Barnard playing for at least 2wks.

Can't understand why this hasn't been dealt with under the wonderful ELV's..

It's simple, if you can't scrum you automatically give away a free kick to the team that can.....end of!

LEST WE FORGET THEY ALSO PULLED THIS ONE ON IRISH ON THE OPENING DAY. 4 TIMES IN 6 GAMES!

COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT

CHEATING :censored: :censored: :censored:? I THINK SO!

ODD HOW IT ALSO OCCURS ABOUT 2 MINUTES AFTER THE OTHER SIDE HAS REPLACED BACK ROW PLAYERS.
